Curious about goals

Hello to All! I was thinking about my goal weight recently. My Dr. never set any number for me. Niether have I at the beginning, but figured that 160's would be a good number since it'd put me in "Normal" BMI. I'm 5'7', pretty large framed and very well-proprtionate. Anyway, I just wanted to see how other people came up with their goals. Best wishes, Rita 5'7'' 255/184/160?

My surgeon threw out 163 when I saw him for my first consult. I thought that would work, since it'd be my smallest weight of my adult life! Then I got home and started playing with the BMI calculator. 150 would put me JUST inside of a normal BMI, so I decided THAT is where I want to be. However since I've been eating like there's no tomorrow for 3 days, I may never make it to the surgeon's goal let alone MINE! Ugh. So much on my mind, and I sit here and graze to deal with it. Bad Bad ME! I gotta get a handle on this.

MRs. G! First, I need to tell you that I followed you and your profile since the very first day you came out of surgery since you were about one week ahead of me, and I must say you've done a ver-very good job. Secondly, In a big picture of things I don't see a huge difference b/w 150 and 163... unless somebody is less than 5'0''. And then.... we still have at least 5 month to go before we are expected to come to our goal. And some people still loose even after that. So stay positive , stay focused, and...THANKS for your input hugs, Rita

Awww Rita, thank you so much! And you're right about the difference in my goals, I figure anything under my surgeon's goal is 'icing on the cake' and will just give me a little room for any fluctuation after I stabilize. I'm determined to get myself back on track. I'm packing away water now to try to keep me from grazing anymore today and cleanse my body of the crap I've been eating.

Hi Rita, I also went by my normal bmi for my goal. I am 5'4" tall and 145 puts me at a bmi of 24.8 (24.9 is normal).... My Dr. didn't set a goal for me either. I actually think the 170's would be good, but 145 is the "ultimate" goal.... Take Care Tammy 5'4" 291/284/204.5/145

Tammy, I'm with you,girl..) Even if I didn't loose another pound, I'd still be happy and do it all over again in a blink. but to get to the "ultimate" goal would be like icing on a cake. thanks for your reply, Rita

I am 5'7" as well. No science involved here - just vanity. I picked 140 because that is a weight in which I kept before I had my children. I was comfortable at that weight and felt I looked and felt good weighing 140. LOL, Sherry

Sherry, LOL... VAnity it's , I guess... I've been always maintaining that I just don't have that sense of Vanity at all....but I'm changing my mind now... the Sense of Vanity has emerged underneath layers of fat that's fallen off, I think. 140 is a good number, but I'll settle for 160... hugs, Rita

Hi Rita, What a great question! My surgeon never gave me a goal weight either. I just remember when I weighed around 140ish I felt pretty good. I may be happy at 150 or so, I won't know until I get there. I really don't think I will have to worry about losing too much weight. My body hangs on for dear life to every pound that I have on me now! Lori 5'5" 281/198/140

Lori, I think it's hard for any us to imagine that that loosing too much would be a problem. But occasionally it does happen, and then it's just as much of an issue as being overweight/obese. thanks for your input, best wishes, rita
