I know we're not supposed to chew gum after surgery. However, I've done it ever since. Does anyone know exactly what happens if it is swallowed? Clarissa 346/229/150

Clarissa, I too have had some gums since the surgery....I don't think that it's in and of itself is a big deal ( I do SF gums)...And if you accidently swallowed it.... it's not about what WILl happen, but rather what MIGHT happen.... it may obstruct the outet more likely than it might've before surgery.... but I don't think that chances of that happening are that big though....Anyway, certainly don't swallow them purposely, but don't loose you sleep about it happenning accidently. hugs, Rita

Another argument in this is that Gums aren't that good for Us because thay may stimulate our appetite(saliva and gastric juices as reflex response to chewing--- remember Pavlovian Dog? ) Off the subject of gums: great Weight loss, Clarissa! WTG! hugs, rita

I need to update my profile a bit, I have been writing everything down on paper because it is easier at the time of thought anyway... I am sure you will be fine on the gum thing beings your at the 6 mo mark I'll bet no probs Keep up the great work!! Diana 267/188/165

I chew gum ALL the time. Just gotta watch it if you're a gum swallower. It may cause an obstruction. Tammy
