Feeling like a failure
Hello.... I'm sort of feeling like a failure here. I had surgery at the end of august. Day of surgery I weighted 231. Today I weigh 180. I know that's a good weight loss but I have only lost about 8 lbs in the last 2 months. I see others that started at about the same weight and are already down in the 130's. Has anyone else had a stall like this? I know part of what I am doing wrong - I've started snacking and I am not excersizing like I should be so I know it's my fault. Anyways...just sort of whining I guess.
Hello!
Don't feel like a failure! You are doing great! You were what i consider a light weight for the surgery... since you didn't have as much as others to lose you won't lose as quickly!
Also, being the optimist that I am, a slower weightloss is good because it helps you avoid the skin sagging to some degree...
Also if you are hitting a plateau, kick up your exercise and watch what you are eating closely... protein protein protein! get back to basics... somewhere on this board is listed the Plateau buster diet... always good guide to follow!
Don't lose heart! You are doing great!

YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!
I had a mini-gastric bypass on August 18th and I had been an above average looser for the first three months... started at 242 and I've now been stuck at 165-168 for at least 6 weeks!
The people who have the most weight to loose often loose quicker for longer. I had exactly 100 pounds to loose and the first 60 came off link nothing... but my doctor tells me I will continue to loose for up to a year and a half. If I didn't slow down now... I'd be gone in a year and a half.
I do get frustrated... I eat pretty darn good, take all of my supplements, and go to Curves 4 -5 days a week and walk about 10K the other days. Since my weightloss has stalled I've gone from a size 14 to a size 12, so good things are still happening.
You may be able to kick-start the weight loss again by increasing your activity level.... and keep the snacks healthy. Remember your surgery is a tool... use it wisely and you'll be thinner and healthier... Try not to slip back into the old bad snacking habbits... you've gone through so much to get where you are. ps... whining is good for the soul..... hugs Kim
I too share your feelings of failure. I had surgery on the 5th of August and am only down 63 pounds. I am exercising and trying to eat and drink exactly what I should but I have stalled and my over all rate of loss has been so much slower than others. My surgeon has no follow up program and I think that I could have benefitted from the additional support. Regardless you and I both are doing better than we were prior to surgery. I wish I was at minus 100 but I feel if I keep on working on it I will eventually succeed. Try and focus on what you have accomplished and making better choices and you will get back on track.
Take Care,
Kelli
Everyone is different. You are doing fine with the weight loss. I had my surgery on August 12th and weighed 260 lbs, I am now 168. I think I am doing great and so are you. Sometimes losing weight at at a slower pace is better. You might not need plastic surgery for excess skin removal. Look at it that way. Good luck and stay positive.
Some people are just slow loosers. I too get frustrated with those that have lost 100+ in the same time space. I was stuck at having lost 59lbs until two weeks ago. I'm hoping that the harder I work for the loss, the more it will mean to me, and the less chance of going back to old habits. I don't know how I'd feel if I was at goal after 5 months. As long as the weight comes off, and I've learned how to keep it off, I consider my self a success. (Still, I would love to be onderland sooner rather than later.)

Thanks everyone for your encouraging words! When I think about it I am in a much better place now than I was before surgery - even if I don't loose another pound. I'm going to try to make february a fresh start and start logging everything I eat and drink to make sure that I am doing things right. I also talked to my husband in depth about how I was feeling and he said he will try to help me out and encourage me as best he can.
Thanks again everyone for your support! Sometimes its nice to just know I'm not the only one going thru this.

Melissa, Thanks for your post! I frequently share your feelings! I started at 315, so I should be one of the fast losers, right? Wrong!!!!
I've lost 67 lbs. I had to stop myself from writing "only"! I'm really happy with my loss, until I read about August people who've lost over 100. Then I get pissed at myself and jealous!
I have a theory. We're like the story of the tortise and the hare! I don't dump and I don't I think that people who do lose faster! They're the rabbits!
We're the tortises! I eat healthy, get my protein & vitamins in, could drink more water (but am getting better at it) and avoid all the things I should (sugar, caffiene, etc.). Tomorrow I have my first session with a personal trainer.
Slow and steady! We'll get to goal and keep it off!
