Poll - What r u doing for exercise?
Just wondering what, if any, exercise you all are getting, and how you think it is affecting your weight loss.
I am currently working out on my Gazelle (thing from the Geico commercial, "You can doooo iiit!" ) 2-3 times a week for 20-30 minutes at a time, but I would like to do more. I feel like I am not losing fast enough lately, so I would really like to kick things up a notch.
Thanks for your input in advance!!

I try to go to Curves 3-4 times a week. However, with school out for Christmas I have only been able to go a total of 3 times (for last week and this week). Looking forward to picking it back up soon. I have a treadmill but don't use it hardly at all. It gets boring to me...lol. Not sure how much it is attributing to the weight loss but I'm hoping it helps tone me up some so the skin issue isn't as bad as it could be.

Katie,
Exercise has been a challenge for me. I do not do well with exercising at home since I can always find other things that "need" to get done. Group exercise programs are basically non-existent in my small town. I would like to go to the high school exercise facility but it has limited hours plus I have a three year old so need to work around that. What I have been trying to do is use my elliptical three times a week for at least 20 minutes but these last two weeks I have been unable due to arthritis in my feet and now it is hard to get back into the routine.
My new year's resolution is to resume the elliptical three days a week and to lift weights at the high school two days a week.
Good luck,
Lynne

Hi, Katie.
I'm glad you brought up this discussion. I'm curious to see what others are doing. And here is what I'm trying to do:
Eliptical machine (feels like walking in snow or sand) 35-40 mins @ 4-5mi/hr x 3-4/week burnes 300-400 kCal per session
Group Power class for 1hr x 2 /week
I do it at Gold's Gym. Dne it consistently since I signed up 2 months ago up untill week before Xmas. I've desided to take a break due to the holidays, but I'm going back next week...no "if"s "and"s or "but"s...
Now....Does it help me to loose weight faster? I don't know.... maybe not.... but it makes me feel (physical and emotional) and look better there is no second opinion about that, and overall I find it to be a healthy thing. Plus every time I'm able to do something that I haven't been able to do before(like run on treadmill occasionally for 5 mins) it gives a big burst to my motivation toward overall change of healthier lifestyle. And I need all the help I can get with motivation...does that make sense?
take care . hugs,
Rita

At one time, I was walking three miles a day seven days a week. My nine year old son plays every sport known to man so I would load my six month old baby into the stroller and away we would go while Hunter was at football practice. My weight fell off. When it turned colder and football season ended, I stopped doing this and my weight loss has also slowed way down. I want to get back to walk/jogging at least 20 minutes a day seven days a week. It helps me not to take a break even for a day because I then get out of the routine. It takes 21 days of doing something to make it become a habit. If you do twenty minutes, it passes before you know it and if you do it in the morning you don't have think about it again. This is my New Year's Resolution!! I hope I can do it. I 've done this once before WLS and lost and kept off a lot of weight until I became pregnant with my new baby.
Great question!
These past 2 weeks have not been the norm for me, but I hope to get back to my 'routine' after I get back from vacation. I have been too busy getting ready for Christmas and now am getting ready for a week in Cozumel (eat, sleep and dive!). Diving should be great exercise for the coming week.
My normal routine and what I like to do is swim at least 4 times a week. My husband and I are doing around 9 laps in a 25 meter pool (9x50=450 meters). We don't swim all out, I am mostly doing lengths on my back with some side strokes thrown in. As we get used to a distance, we add a lap (2 lengths of the pool). We are there about 30-40 minutes and then hit the sauna for about 10 minutes before showering and dressing. We were walking about 2 miles several times a week before the weather got cooler. The dogs loved that! Since we both work days, we would be walking after dark and in the cold. Will probably stay with swimming until springtime and then pick up a mixture of the two.

I recently bought a new elliptical machine from Wal-mart for only $214.00 (there were others that were around $185). I LOVE IT! It's kind of like riding your bike but standing up or like walking in sand. I jus****ch TV and do about 35 minutes at various resistance levels and it comes out to be a 1 mile. After I'm done, I'm sweating like crazy and boy do I feel it in my tighs and legs! I do this about 3-4 times a week and since I've started, I really haven't had any major stalls like I had been having before I was exercising. I highly recommend purchasing one of these! I know that the holidays just passed and money is tight, but YOU'RE worth it, PLUS, you can put it on layaway at wal-mart and make payments on it until it's paid off so it's not so bad (which is what I convinced my friend to do).

I try to go to curves 6 days a week. I have tried using those machines but they are so boring and at curves I burn as much calories as on those eliptical machines. I have a polar heart rate monitor and it tells me what is going on. I also ride my bike around the streets. That is about it. Oh I walk my dogs...

I like to go workout 3-4 times a week. For cardio, I usually do 35-45 minutes on an exercise bike. Before my cardio, I work with freeweights on various muscle groups day-to-day. For you women, even lightly working your major muscle groups,(quads, hamstrings, butts) will really accelerate fat loss, as even at rest these muscles will help to burn a lot of calories. Before I started back at exercise, my weight loss was moving slowly. Best of luck to all!
