Food

Diana, We are almost twins-same surgery date and progressing about the same. I have no interest in much food during day until I get home at night and it seems like I could eat continuously. That was an old issue so I have to watch carefully. I basically consume proteins with some veggies and carbs. I have definitely not been perfect and have not had much of a reaction to the not so good choices. I have tried a bite of sweets here and there and also a chip or two. I know that I shouldn't but for me total restriction is what got me in trouble with past attempts to lose weight. Anyway, I am kind of in a rut as far as food is concerned. I think it is being comfortable with what I know I can tolerate. I have eaten out and at others houses and just try to stick to the proteins. Generally, I start the day with protein drink, have protein bar at about 10am then eat egg salad or tuna salad on crackers at 12 or 1. I try to have a snack at about 3pm to avoid the munchies when I get home. A snack usually includes a cheese stick or two or yogurt or what is left over from my lunch. Supper choices are not very consistent. Sometimes I have a little of what prepared for the family, cheese, protein bar, cottage cheese, soup, etc. I usually try to have a glass of milk before bed to get a little more protein in. Hope this helps, Lynne 276/206/146

I can basically eat what I want. Not that everything agrees with me. The other night I had fi****hrew up about 5 hours later. It just didn't seem to go anywhere. Ick! Second time around, fish is not good. So I probably won't be eating that again anytime soon. I do try to get all of my protein in through my food. A typical day for me, lately, has been like this: Around 6AM, I usually eat a yogurt and a s/f pudding cup (I get up with my hubby when he goes to work, and I have to start early to get in all my protein.) Or maybe some cottage cheese. Around 9 AM, I typically have 4 oz of thin sliced deli turkey and 6 ritz crackers. For lunch, I might have a lunchables (the turkey has 18 g of protein and the ham has 20!). They are easy. For dinner, I have either chicken or beef. As long as the chicken is tender and moist, it doesn't bother me. Last week, I made a home made beef vegetable soup. I put in LOTS of stew meat (enough so I could have 4 oz of beef with every "bowl" = 24 g. protein to make it worth eating). I let it simmer for 4 or 5 hours and the meat was SO tender. Anyway, I eat my protein first and sometimes have room for a few bites of veggies. If I fall short of my protein, I will drink some milk( if I'm close) or have a shake. If I was smart (lol) I'd have my shake anyways, and get in LOTS of protein. But most days, I just stick with my food and I do alright. BTW...I'm four and a half months out and down 100 pounds and 64 inches and I generally go to the gym 3x a week.

Sounds like we are all in the same boat. However, I must be one of the luckier ones because I still haven't experienced hunger yet. But then, I never really had that problem in the past...my problem was "head" hunger due to being an emotional eater. So far, there have only been a few things that bother me and if I do eat carbs, ie a tortilla with chicken in it, I tend to get an uncomfortable feeling so I'm staying away from them for the most part. That's a good thing (my reaction to carbs), I think. Haven't tried any sweets, prefer to think I'll dump and just leave it at that so I won't be tempted...another good thing. I pretty well eat normal food but I do concentrate on protein first. I usually drink a shake in morning and if I don't get enough protein in during day, I have one in evening. I actually like them, thank goodness. Feel like I'm have a "normal" shake. Maybe I just lucked out and got some good tasting ones. Some actually taste "sinful" and that I shouldn't be drinking them...lol... Tomorrow I will be 4 months out and have lost 86 pounds. In the beginning I weighed every day and that has proven to be a mistake for me. The last few months I'm only weighing on Monday and I find I'm not stressing as much about stalls and that has been a plus mentally. I know I'm eating far less than ever before plus eating healthier. I don't "fight" with eating the right food and occasionally I will let myself have a little of a no no. I know this is the way it has to be for the rest of my life and I'm trying to make it a habbit now...so far so good. And at this point I feel as if I'll be able to maintain in the future. I try to follow the plan the best I can. If I do have something that I shouldnt, I only have a bite of it. I've become a really cheap date too when we go out for dinner, I just eat off my husband's plate. Good for him too, that way he doesn't eat too much either...lol... I always concentrate on paying attention to when I reach that "full" feeling and stop, regardless of how good it is or how badly I want more "head hunger" again. Sometimes that's hard but I'm getting better at it. If I don't and eat too much, I get sick which is good also. Good luck in making it to onderland...I can't wait to get there too. This is definately a wonderful gift we have given ourselves and we must make it work! We can do it...all of us can do it! Merry Christmas to all of you! Connie 08/22/05 318-234-170
