hair loss

My hair started coming out back toward the end of Oct and I decided to go ahead and get it cut short. I've had it both ways and everyone likes it short. I also started taking biotin (about $5.00 at Walmart). I take 2 a day and it has been helping. What was once coming out in thick pieces, now is much less. My nails also look better. I had noticed that they were splitting pretty badly. They seem stronger too and my skin isn't drying out as bad either. So I guess the biotin is helping me out. Hope this helps. Biotin is really inexpensive and just trying it can't hurt. It is a small tablet to swallow. Good Luck, Lori 293/239/135

I am actually a month ahead of most of you on this sight. I like to look at all posts within a couple of months of my surgery. I am just a week or so shy of 5 months and my hair loss has slowed dramatically in the last two weeks. I know everyone is different but keep your chin up. It will stop eventually.

Mine started to fall out at 3 months but wasn't that bad at first. Now it is falling out like crazy! My surgeon recommended upping my protein intake. I also take a hair/skin/nails supplement, L-cysteine (supposed to help your body use the protein you eat more efficiently), zinc, and selenium. These are all in some way supposed to help. One thing that will help with the frizzies and make it look thicker (and really shiney) is a shine serum. I use Hask Spray-On Illuminator that I bought at Wal-Mart. Good luck!! Katie

Hi, guys. I'm hearing about people loosing their hair post-WLS lwft and right, but so far I haven't lost anything (keeping my fingers crossed here). I don't really know why. Maybe it's because I don't have much hair to start with or maybe it's because 6 weeks after the surgery I finally decided to cut my hair really short--- wanted to do that for a long time but thought my face was to big and I wouldn't be able to get away with it. After loosing much in y face was finally able to do it and look good... I take my Vitamins religiously --Centrum Chewables, drink protein, but no other special suppliments....oh....I forgot...I also give myself kind of hair mask weekly with home-made mixture of honey, egg and olive oil, and a few sprinkles of lemon juice... just rub it in and keeep it for 15-20 min before washing it... what else...shampoo I use is Pontene Pro V "Thick and full" with aminoacids. I'd be glad if somebody find it helpful and able to stop their loss... although one thing I know for sure is that post-WLS hairloss is reversible. It does groe back. best wishes to all, Rita

I'm almost afraid to post to this one cause I might xinx (sp) myself lol, About two months out I noticed my already thin hair thinning more and freaked. I bought nioxion, biotin, and kept my protiene at approx 100 g a day,. So far so good at 4 months out, but still a bit nervous lol. I had my pcp draw 14 vials of blood to check all my vit levels and everything looks good

my hair also started coming out in clumps etc. about a month ago. I feel like a shedding dog - my dr. told me to up my intake of protein. I can't eat more than I already am, as I get nauseous easily if I eat even a tiny bit more, so I am drinking double milk (skim milk with 4 tbsp of powdered milk, and sugar free nesquik) - I use one of those hand held mixer things to make sure the milk is dissolved - anyway it seems to be helping as it has slowed down. I drink three of these a day now. I am going to buy some of that biotin and try it - can't hurt!

I started losing my hair at precisely 3 months. I have thick hair and it's not really noticeable to anyone unless they look at the shower drain or my hairbrush. To me it is starting to feel VERY THIN. I try not to wa**** every day, but I don't work so I can get away with bad hair days...LOL! My friend, who is a year out from surgery, said she started losing her hair at three months, too. She has very short hair and always has, but said hers came out in clumps too. It stopped after two months or so and is back to normal. She used Nioxin Shampoo during this time, too. I have started using it and after only a few days, I'm noticing that while it's still coming out, it's not nearly as bad as it was a few days ago. I hope it continues to improve. My doctor told me not freak out about it. It will stop and come back. I'm just afraid it will come back gray!
