Anything besides Bitoin or Nioxin?
I know alot of us are experiencing hair loss. Mine is really bad! I was just wondering if anyone is using anything other than Biotin or Nioxin? I've been using Biotin since October when the hair loss first started, but it has gotten worse! I've just started Nioxin products yesterday - hope they work better. Thanks!
Clarissa - Hi, I can not answer your questions, but am interested in hearing others replys. I also started losing my hair in October and yesterday, I went to Wal-Mart and bought both Biotin and Nioxin. I took biotin this morning and plan on washing my hair with the Nioxin tonight. I hope this helps. I hate my hair getting any thinner then it already is.

I started Biotin before my surgery, and started using Nioxin about 6 weeks after surgery...I noticed my hair loss starting at 1 month! I am still losing hair...cleaned the shower drain the other day...could have made a coat, rather depressing (not to mention disgusting!). Here's hoping that the Sinead O'connor bald look makes a comeback! I do think Nioxin helps my hair look thicker. My hairdresser also cut my hair with more layers so it would look thicker when I dry it...I hear that this passes in time, lets hope!
Well, My hair has been thin for years. I started using Nioxin about 5 years ago, after my hair started falling out after I gave birth to my son and it worked. Then I started taking extra vitamins before surgery and my hair got even thicker. Well, about two weeks ago, it started falling out like crazy. I have been taken Biotin on and off since surgery. I know protein has a lot to do with it. I have been taking my protein religiously; however, I have dropped more weight in the last two weeks then I have since I started, so I think the rapid weight loss has a lot to do with it. Last month, I only lost 7.5lbs and the last two weeks I have lost 8.5lbs. So, who knows. Anyways, I took it a step further. I was talking to a nurse the other day and she has thinning hair and she swears by Rogaine. She recommended the Men's version once a day. You can use it with NIOXIN; however the men's version may cause facial hair. So, not wanting any extra hair, I decided to buy the women's version. You use it twice a day and all you do is take an eyedropper and put a few drops where it is thinning. (Part lines). I have been using it for about a week and I have noticed that my hair loss is slowing down. She said it does take several months for it to really kick in. (I figure it is just that eventually I will be bald...ha ha) I don't know if any of this really works. I know that NIOXIN did thicken my hair when I started using it. I am not certain about the BiOTIN or Rogaine. But, it seems to have slowed it down. I also try not to blow dry or use chemicals like hairspray on the weekends). The good news is everyone who has had this surgery and lost hair, says it does grow back. I am thinking of cutting it short and in layers, but then I am afraid it will look even thinner. So, I am with you all, I hope someone has the miracle solution.

My hair has started to thin alo as well. I too have thin hair to begin with. Most post-ops I have talked to say it lasts 1-3 months & then comes back better than before. From what I've heard by most, including my surgeon, is that there's really nothing you can do to stop it. It's a combination of the major surgery, along with the diet. I'm just sticking it out hoping it will slow down soon. My sister had her surgery June 28th, just about 7 weeks before mine & she had hair loss which started at 3 months & lasted about a month. Mine also started at 3 months, so I'm hoping it will slow down pretty soon. I'll be 4 months out on Thursday. At any rate good luck to everyone & don't worry, we won't be completely bald.

Hey Clarissa,
be patient it is NOT a permenant thing and I started taking biotin before I had my surgery because that was a fear of mine, well of course I hit that 3 month mark and I notice that I had to start cleaning my brush and the drain out every time, so I upped my dose to 2 pills 1000 mcg a day and so far it has not gotten worse. I know my Doc suggests using Biotin and I have heard the Nioxin works only if you use it all the time. So good luck to you all it won't last. I have a friend who had her surgery 3 months before me and she is already starting to grow hers back and she isn't taking anything other than her regular vitamins and protein.

OMG i am glad that I have not the only one having this issue I see. I have been freaking out. I started using Nioxon about 1 month ago and within the last week I have been clogging the shower drain every day. I am freaking out so bad. Stressing out bad!!! Probably making matter worse I am going to go tomorrow and try adding the BIOTIN cuz I really do not think the nioxin is working obvoisly. The nurse warned me that this is the stage that most of us see this but gees you do not want to believe it is going to happen to you.
Hi Clarissa,
I'm kind of glad to see that I'm not alone in this. Just in the last 3 weeks my hair has really been falling out. I can just run my fingers through it and I can pull a lot out. I started using Biotin and Nioxin but have not noticed any change yet. I really don not like the way the Nioxin makes my hair feel after I wa**** but if it works I guess I'll deal with it. I was told to give the Nioxin at least a month to notice a difference. I think I will up the dosage on the Biotin as suggested by others. Hope the hair loss stops soon for everyone.

Hi everyone-
This just came up in support group this past Tuesday. My surgeon said- that the hair loss is actually an indicator that the surgery succeeded, and caused a rapid weight loss- its one of the symptoms of successful surgery.
I am just beginning to see feel hair loss- not extensively- but I have been taking multivitamins 4xdaily- that includes biotin. They are Optisource
vitamins and available online at Walgreens- made especially for bariatric patients.
Also- everyone at 6-12mos out recommended both Biotin and Nioxin- and everyone said it stops and grows back. The nutrionist said- it has nothing to do with your diet NOW- but has to do with your diet following surgery - for protein loss that occurred months ago.
Hope that helps- and wish everyone a great holiday-
Hugs,
Donna
