Help!!! Back Pain Plus
I'm having severe mid back pain that radiates around to my abdomen. At first I thought it was a kidney infection, but my Doctor said it's because my weight is shifting? Has anyone every heard that before? It must not be anything serious with my internal organs because if a lay down or sit a certain way it goes away completely, but if I stand up it starts again; I'm thinking something muscular maybe? In addition I do have an umbilical hernia that has reoccurred since surgery. Occasionally when I get up in the AM and until I get going in the morning the pain from this can be quite unbearable. Also I get a burning numbness in my left leg when I walk for long time. Tylenol does nothing for the pain and we can't take anti-inflammatory medication like Advil or Motrin anymore. This has all been happening on and off since about 5 weeks out of surgery. Other than this I'm not having any other physical issues I've lost 66lbs since 8-8-05 and feel great, but when this happens I'm miserable. Any suggestions or a similar shared experience would help.
Sue,
The same thing happened to me. I couldn't hardly walk any distance without it killing me. This lasted for about 3 to 4 weeks. If it is the weight redistributing it will go away...if you don't get some relief call doctor again.
Congratulations on your weight loss - that is so awesome!

Yes Rosemary the pain can be quite terrible. Is your pain bad also. I don't have any pouch pain. I do have an appointment on Dec 14th with my surgeon and I'm not going to take the answer my weight is shifting again it has to be something else. I hate to have gone this far and have pain like this, my back didn't hurt this much at 295lbs. How is your weight loss, I've been stalled at 229 for about 3 weeks.
SUE,
My back hurt like yours for a few days then all of a sudden one morning I
started and the pain was sooooooo bad.
I laid in the tub full of hot ho****er and that helped but it was only a temp fix buy the second day I was in the ER crying.
Well mine truned out to be a kidney stone from not drinking enough fluids.
I know keep my fluid intake up. But my back still hurts from time to time.
I have never heard of it being because the weight was shifting.
CONGRATS on the weight loss!!!!!!!!!!
Tale care,
Chrissy
Chrissy,
My fluid intake is only about 42 ounces a day. I hope it's not kidney related, the only reason I thought it was'nt was the pain always goes away when I lay down. You would think it would still hurt laying down. Was that the case with you. I'll try and increase the fluids and see if it makes a differance.
Congratulations on your weight loss I reviewed your profile and I'm glad thing are getting better for you after Katrina. I've been praying for all of you affected by this disaster.
Thanks and God Bless, Sue
