Jealousy or feeling sorry for myself?

I have to admit. I am soooo jealous of you ladies out there who have lost 70+ lbs in 3 months... Don't get me wrong, I am also very happy for you. I just don't know what you are doing that I am not. Other than exercising and drinking protein shakes, I don't see how I am doing anything differently. I can't exercise like I want to because of my back injury. My surgeon doesn't want us to drink Protein shakes. But ya know, I think I might start them anyway. I haven't found one that I can handle yet other than the EAS ones at Rite Aid. I just had my 3-month check up and labs done. Everything came back perfect. I take my vitamins, calcium, and b12 daily. I drink lots of fluids. I stay away from salt, fat, carbs and sugar. I am so anxious to get out there into a gym I can't stand it. I really don't know what I am looking for in an answer here... Guess I just needed to vent more than anything. I am so thankful for the 54lbs I have lost so far. I just thought it would be more by now. Thanks for listening... Lori

There are several ways to look at this issue of losing slowly. I for one choose to see it this way: My surgery date was 8/3/05 and to date I have lost 58 pounds. Now there are many women who have lost a whole lot more than I have but, I keep telling myself that it is because my body knows that my skin needs time to shrink back as much as it can. If you look at it this way, it turns out to be a blessing. We both started out about the same weight and I think, no I know, you are doing just fine. Keep up the good work and allow you body the time it needs to get your skin back as much as it can. The other thing is that you may not have had that far to go. ie. Needing to lose 250 pounds verses needing to lose 150 pounds. You are doing just fine. Joyful 1

Thanks for the support. I know I am doing ok. I just am floored when people say they have lost 70-80lbs in 3 months. And you are sooo right about the skin thing. My skin is bouncing back pretty good, with exception of my panni which is gonna get removed! I was just feeling sorry for myself. I am soooooo sooooo proud of the people who HAVE lost so much. I was NOT trying to offend anyone by my previous remarks. I hope you all know that. I love you all and love the fact that I can come here and vent and not be judged. You all ROCK! Thanks again! Lori

Lori, I think you're doing great! We're each different. Believe me! I know! This is my second surgery. The first one was in April 2004. They removed 9/10 of my stomach and did an open RNY because of stomach cancer. I just had the rest of my stomach removed August 12th, and they made me an internal pouch for a stomach. I'm down a total of 70 lbs. since my first surgery, and I'm losing really slowly this time. I have been stuck at around 204ish for about a month. I think the scales are starting to move again, so I really hope to be below 200 by the first of the year. We'll see. Don't get discouraged, Lori. You will look back 6 months from now and see that you have made huge gains....or should I say losses! Best of luck! Peg

Wow Peg! You are truly an inspiration to me I really should just quit feeling sorry for myself and accept the fact that I will lose slower than some people but that I am in the majority with my loss so far. Nuff said! Thanks for the support. I truly appreciate it. Lori

I think it's great that you posted because I'll bet there are others who haven't posted and are in the same boat. It's nice that we have a safe place to post how we are doing and how we are feeling. Peg

I have to admit that I feel the same way. I've only lost 47 pounds so far post-op, and get jealous when I see people that are losing so much more. Sorry to say it, but I do. It's not that I wish anyone any thing bad, I just go crazy when I see posts about losing too much too fast - I'd love to have that problem. I don't go to my local support group anymore because there is a guy that had surgery just before me that lost over 100 pounds in 3 months and a girl that had surgery several weeks after me and has already lost 70 pounds. ARGH! I wish I could be perky and positive and celebrate everyone's losses - instead, I feel sorry for myself. I swear I'm not normally like this - I like to think it's the hormones. I did just start back on an antidepressant, and am starting to feel more positive. Like you, I don't want to upset anyone with this post- just make you (and maybe others) feel more "normal". We're all human and can't help how we feel. I'm just grateful to have others who I can share my experiences with. Again, hope this doesn't upset anyone. -kristin

Hey Lori Hang in there you're doing great. I think the only reason I've lost so much so soon is I can't tolorate food and I'm not eating that well plus I almost everything I eat (which my surgeon said was par for the course). I'm still doing liquids and soft foods. As far as protien drinks go have you tried the Unjury brand that you order online? They are real good and seem to digest well. Another reason others might seem to be loosing more is maybe they have more to loose then you do so don't compare yourself to others. Everyone is different. Vent anytime you need to that is what were here for. Debbie

I'm sorry you feel bad Lori. I picked a bad day to pat myself on the back in my post... I hate that I may have contributed to how you feel. I do drink protein shakes - 2 or 3 a day. That's the only difference I see. However, I'm a good bit further out than you are, I'm 4 months and a week out now.
