what can you eat at this point
just wondering if anyone was having problems with meat or most solid food at this point. as soon as meat hits my stomach, i can feel it and it doesnt feel well. i have to rest after eating eat to keep it down, and let the feeling pass, the same with most solid food. about the most solid i can tolerate is cottage cheese. and some cheeses. unfortunatly i had to move out of state soon after surgery, and currently have no insurance...which leaves me to rely on fellow august surgeries info and the help of friends that had this done.
Hi Laurie - I'm able to eat most meats except beef. Pork, chicken, turkey etc as long as it is most. I make alot of soups which I fill with protein and some vegetables. I am still having trouble with raw vegetables. I keep breakfast simple because that seems to be my most sensitive time - usually yogurt, shake or weight control oatmeal. My biggest problem still is getting all the fluids in.

Hi Laurie,
I have a problem with steak if I don't chew chew chew or wait at least 3 minutes between bites. Sometimes, I have to get my timer back out if I feel I'm eating too fast. Make sure to remind yourself of the rules. Take small bites, chew 20-30 times & wait at least 3 minutes before you take another bite. I usually have oatmeal for b-fast & either soup or lean cuisine for lunch. i try to have what everyone else has at dinner, but that's the time I really need to SLOW DOWN because everyone else eats so fast around me.
Sorry to hear you're without insurance. Maybe the state you are in offers an insurance. For example, NY offers Healthy NY for people that do not qualify for medicaid. Good luck with everything & keep us posted

I've tried most of foods by now except for beef, pork, and cakes/cookies type of food....So short of that I haven't had much problems with anything if I don't ru****and I guess I didn't have raw veggies yet too....but all of it on "no-no" list from my surgeon at least until 6 mo. after surgery. I still try to do protein shake instead of breakfast or lunch once a day (9 times out of 10). I try hard to have protein first, and to completely avoid bread/pasta/sweets, and again 9 times out of 10 I'm able to do that, but once in a while I slip and fall. I learned to love fish/seafood, I made cheese my main choice for snacks if I'm desparate to have a snack at all. I'm working on issues of "separation from my beloved potatoes" (just kidding). I still think there is no better food than potato, and nothing comes close as to how many ways you can cook it. So, once a week maybe I'll let myself have something potato related.
Of note I wanted to mention that my dear hubby lost atleast 15 lb. since my surgery without any particular efforts just because of my cooking has changed toward healthier lighter menu.
SO far no big complaints really
best wishes to all,

I'm surprised that the amount that I can eat is different at different times of day, and that I can tolerate certain foods at different times. I can't hold that much for breakfast, just a little more at lunch, and then I can eat a little more than 1/2 a kid's meal from Luby's for dinner. I can eat eggs for dinner, but not for breakfast. I get sick. I can fill up with soup at lunch, but it doesn't really fill me at dinner. I can't eat anything Chinese -even soup. I can eat chicken soup with the chicken, but baked or grilled chicken makes me sick. I have eaten steak, but have had to cut it so small it's like chopped beef. So, I don't bother now. My first meat was the cheeseburger steak at Luby's and I can eat 1/2 of that and be fine. One day I'm fine with tuna, other days I'm sick. Everyday is a surprise really. One thing for sure is that I can't tolerate the meats in frozen meals like the Smart Ones. I get really sick.

Hi Laurie,
At this point I can't tolorate solid food either. My Surgeon told me it was par for the course. Foods that I can tolorate are Cottage Cheese, Cheese Sticks,Mashed potatoes, Most soups except the ones that have a lot of noodels. I can take a bite or two of chicken, tuna, ect. but then I want to puke. I've been sticking to soft foods. Hang in there it will get better so I'm told.

I can eat hamburger, ham, bacon, sausage, chicken, tuna, and turkey.
I usually eat beans once per day in the form of baked beans or chili.
I can eat cereal (Kashi GoLean) and cereal bars (South Beach). I can eat breakfast burritos, peanut butter, and homemade pizza made on a flour tortilla. I have eaten corned beef hash. I have eaten both hamburger helper and tuna helper. I sometimes suplement with protein shakes.
Don't eat much bread. It gets stuck. Haven't tried rice. Haven't tried steak, but I probably could handle it. I cut back on cheese consumption somewhat as a part of my constipation avoidance program...along those same lines I totally eliminated any suplemental iron.
I can drink milk, coffee, water, Sobe Lean, and no sugar added prune juice.
At my 3 month checkup today I have lost 87 lbs and my labs are fine.
