Claudia, don't panic! This was a report done on Medicare patients. They are less likly to use such skilled surgeons as us, due to what Medicare allows. Besides, any surgery is a risk. Ours just include after the fact as well. But put on the brakes as far as panicing. Hey, I did this to prolong my life as well but financially I don't know if I can. I have been out of work for over a year still waiting to get approved from disability with only my hubby's income which is not enuf.... I have used up my IRA savings during this time. I do not know if I will ever be abe to work again (hope so though). What I am trying to say is p-l-e-a-s-e do not panic. All will be fine. Just follow your dr.'s post care. I assume you heard the report on older medicare patients also but, wanted to interject this little bit of info. So many people put this weight right back on just within a couple of years after the surgery and that is a huge strain on your heart and all your organs so we must be dilligent in sticking to the foods and portions we are allowed and not try sugars and fats just to see if we can tollerate them. We have to stick to the plan in order for this tool to work forever!! It is a lifelong committment and after awhile we will get used to this new way of eating (I am 30 mos post op and practically there) but we will have to remind ourselves always everytime we eat to do the right thing or we will be in sooo much trouble if we start gaining. Another report I read was misleading in that they took ANYONE who died who had also had gastric bypass. If they were struck by lightning and died, BUT 3 years before had gastric bypass surgery, that person was included in the "deaths after surgery" tally. Try not to worry, not everything I read was true.
