Average Wt Loss at 3 months out???
Tomorrow is my 3 month anniversary, and I am disappointed that I have only lost 43 pounds post-op. I believe I heard that my surgeon's practice average is 53 pounds, so I really thought I would have lost more. Can anyone tell me if they've heard what the average loss is at 3 mos? Messages fill our local yahoo message board with stories of losing WAY more than me. I'm trying to stay positive, but it's hard. In all honesty, I don't exercise, so... I guess I have no one to blame but myself. This whole thing has me really doubting my ability to change. I really need to pray today for motivation. Any words of wisdom??
Disappointed in myself,
Kristin
I wasn't losing much either. Now, I am just past 3 months and am down 60 pounds. Yippee!
However, I HAVE to work out. I also had to increase my calories. For me, not exercising means the scale will simply NOT move. I guess that is good, but it requires committment. I work out harder now than ever before. It isn't easy, but it is way easier than it was pre-surgery and I actually see results now!
Go for walks, join Curves...promise to try just two weeks of cardio work at least 3 days a week and report back (walking counts and it is free - just keep working on picking up the pace to keep your heart rate up). I am willing to bet that you WILL see a difference.
Not everyone will lose weight quickly, but your weight is coming off. The only thing you can and should concentrate on is what you are doing to contribute to the numbers. It is not just about calories in. This is about total health too - and that means keeping your heart in good shape. I know that seeing the scale move slowly is discouraging, but when I see the numbers slow, I automatically think about what I have and haven't done to contribute to the problem. I have to be accountable and if anything, that is what the surgery did for me. It gave me back control and I have to do the work now to be the success I have always wanted to be.
My husband also had this surgery and he is blessed by not having to really exercise. Not everyone is so lucky. You may be in my little unlucky group whose body needs more output.
Sometimes I make bad food choices (stupid sugar teeth!) and other times I just don't want to exercise. But truthfully, after I am done exercising, I don't regret it. The first step is the hardest. On days when I just am not interested in working out, I promise myself 10-15 min. If I still hate it, I leave and try to squeeze in 10-15m elsewhere in my day. Usually though, once I get going I would just rather get it over with and not have to think about it again. I usually exercise at Curves 2X a week and jog/walk the dog 30-40 min 3X a week.
I agree with gift4gab. I just went over three months today. I exercise daily, sweating and everything. I have lost 51 lbs and If I don't work out the scale won't move. I have a problem with saying no to certain foods so I must work out hard everyday.
Don't be hard on yourself. 43lbs is awesome. Just think about how long it would have taken you to lose that weight before surgery. Everyone's journey is different. This is not a short run. This is for the rest of our lives. It's not how fast you get there but how long you stay there.
I don't mean to come off preachy or anything. I struggle with the same thoughts.
And happy three month anniversary.
I am so glad that you posted. I'm 3 months out today and I'm down 53 lbs. from 261. I haven't lost anything, maybe 2 lbs, in 2-3 weeks. I know that I need to increase my protein and change my exercise routine. I'm thinking of hiring a trainer to make me a routine with weights to fight the flab and work out with me a couple of times a few times. I can't afford it long-term. I'm also finding that I'm actually having hunger and can eat more. I'm really battling the food demons. I also thought that by now I'd have changed my life and those of my family, but it really hasn't. We exercise together as a family on the weekends since we have time then. During the week, my hubby travels, so I'm usually the one doing everything and only get to walk on the treadmill at home. I need some motivation too. The holidays have me a little down too since I lost my mom earlier this year, and I live far from my family. I'll add you to my prayers for motivation and encouragement.
I'm looking for a WLS partner to keep me motivated. If anyone lives in the McAllen, TX area, e-mail me if your interested in buddying up.
Hello Kristin
First let me say congrats on your weight loss!! Everyone's body is different, you are doing awesome so keep up the good work!
With that being said. Monday I have my 3 month follow-up visit with my surgeon. I happen to be down from 304 to 225 so nearly 80 lbs. I have to say I haven't exercised nearly enough. I need to get back to walking. I do think it is partly because I haven't been able to eat very much until recently. My pouch wasn't tolerating much at all.
Again keep up the great work!!
Love and hugs
Kimberly
Hi kristin,
My 3 months anniversary will be on 11/30. I have hit a plateau and the scale is moving betwwen 230 to 233. My starting weight by my scale said 278, as of to night the scale said 232 so I have loss 46 pounds. I'm stuck and I wish the scale would move under that 230 mark. I pray that by sunday morning I will be weighting in at 228. That will be a 50 pound loss for me. I understand about the exercise I walked 1 1/2 mile yesterday and my knees hurt so bad today that I couldn't go back today. I plan to ride my exercise bike tomorrow and rezoom my walking by saturday. But the bottom line is I want have up the fight to I win. Sorry for any misspelled works. Congrats on your 43lbs loss and keep on fighting to you reach your goal. Good Night.

Kristin,
I understand how frustrating it seems, but I had my surgery 5 days before you and I had lost 43lbs at three months. Today, I am down 45lbs. I had my three month check up last Friday with my doctor and I was concerned, last month I had only lost 7.5lbs and I was freaking out. So, I asked him. He said and I quote, "I only want you to lose between 5 and 10 pounds a month, If you lose less then 5 or more then 10 for over two months then I would be concerned". He said to stop worrying about the scale. All my labs were great. I am exercising 3-4 times a week (45min of Cardio) He said make sure you are getting in your protein, water and vitamins. He also said the people who are losing LOTS of weight are much bigger then me, so they are expected to lose more. The goal is that we are all going to reach approximately 80%loss of EXCESS body fat by the end of the year. So, people who have more to lose will lose it much faster, because at the end of the year we should all be about the same. I hope this helped. But, you and I are on the same weightloss. Exercise is extremely important and staying hydrated. Just think of it this way...Are skin is able to actually keep up with our weight loss. I have little sagging right now.
You are doing GREAT....keep following the doctor's order's and we will all be glamorous in 9 more months....

tomorrow is my 3 month anniversary and as of today i'm at 43 pounds. i'm very happy about that. i'm a lightweight and only had about 80 total to lose, so i guess that makes a difference with the slower loss. you have to realize that you probably didn't gain it quickly, so you won't lose it quickly! and the slower we lose the better it is for skin not hanging, etc. keep up the good work!
