How do you get in your Protein??
I am having some trouble getting in the protein. I have cheated some and need some support. I have lost 70 lbs since my surgery in August and am doing well. However, this past week I had bronchitis and have cheated a great deal. I had 2 of those white castle hamburgers with cheese for three days in a row - I also had some chicken wings with the skin off - needless to say my nutr freaked out!! too much fat - but I was sick and that was all I ate.
Well, I am sick of protein - it is not like I eat anything else though - I just want fruit! I love oranges and strawberries! So, where have you been getting the protein from?
I really hate the shakes - but will try someone put something about Unjury and hot cocoa and splenda - I do have that -
I also don't get a lot of calories in - around 500 - sooooo

Hopefully you are feeling much better now.
We all have good days and bad days. I drink a protein shake in the am and pm then rely on my meals the rest of the day. I add in additional shakes if I do strenuous activity or if I haven't eaten much that day. I'm the first to admit that the protein drinks aren't my favorite part of the day, but they are necessary and they help make up if I get sloppy about the rest of the food I eat that day.
I like the IsoPure, we drink a lot of the Costco Vanilla protein powder mixed with OJ and fruit and yogurt, I like the Champion Nurtition Choco-Moccahino served really cold. There are options, you just have to keep looking and sampling until you find what will work for you. We also recently tried the the Profect protein vials - they are okay, 25g for 3 oz. Kind of pricey, but by mixing up our drinks we haven't gotten lazy about them due to boredom.
A quick word about fruit. I eat oranges and I love them! I also eat apples and grapes (though the grapes are a bit higher in sugar.) I think that you should be able to try them by now - but start small and make sure you don't have any reactions. It is a natural sugaar and I would think that 1/2 orange a day would be fine for you. Plus the fiber helps with other issues I was having. I am at the point that I can eat a whole orange or apple at a time - though it is a little uncomfortable if it is a large piece of fruit. The fruit itself is a meal for me, so that takes away from total protein, but for me, the fiber is a huge bonus, and I LOVE fruit. Just to have my fruit, I will gladly drink more protein.
Try snacking on cheese and yogurt, maybe some turkey slices. Spend a couple days of just eating (healthy things, and not huge quantities - just a meal every two hours or so) and you will also see the scale respond favorably. I alternate every couple weeks between eating little and eating lots and the scale has been good to me. THe key of course, is to not eat TOO much, it is just about upping the protein and calories so my body doesn't stay in starvation mode.
Whatever works for you!
Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
I buy my protiene from vitalady.com she also sells samples and everything on her site is ok for wls patients (she's a wls patient herself). She has alot of nectar samples (though I don't like them) what I do LOVE is champion pure whey stack, and IDS cinimon vanilla. I got tired of making "cold" shakes so now in the am I put eaither in with my coffee (defaff) and it taste YUMMY. I have the chocolate whey from Costco too as a back up but it dosen't taste as good as the champion.
There are alot of things you can do with your protiene shakes, add the nectar fruit flavored ones to crystal light, fat free yogurt etc. Also, as long as you don't "boil" the liquid you can think of hot drinks to make with them, even using sugar free syrup flavors (myfav is hazlenut).
Even my kids drink protiene shakes now and call them "hot chocolate" LOL
I too am sick of the quest for protien. For the last month, I did smoothies with unflavored whey protien. However, with all the fruit, the carbs get a bit high. But it's all so nutrious and tastes yummy too.
I finally gave in and order the protica protien vials. It's so easy, it doesn't seem right. The taste is a little sweet, but it's only three oz and 25 grams of protien. I'm downing one for breakfast. Since there are no carbs, I can eat sushi and not worry too much about the rice.
Speaking of calories, it's amazing how few we can survive on. I'm averaging 600 a day. Today, without the fruit, it was 440.
