3 months out - no WOW moments
Not sure if I'm just feeling sorry for myself lately, but I guess I'm pretty disappointed in my results so far. I am happy of course that I have lost 43 lbs (it was 46 but I GAINED 3 lbs this week!) But I worry ALL THE TIME. Worry if I'm getting enough calories in to avoid starvation mode...worried that I get my fluids...counting protein...watching carbs...etc. I guess I'm one of the ignorant ones that really didn't have a clue about life after surgery until, well, life after surgery. I'm really good about all my vitamins everyday...so atleast that's a plus.
I guess I'm just exhausted from the constant juggling act...I just thought by 3 months out I would FEEL better.
Thanks for listening!

I totally agree with you on everything you said, but one thing. The worrying if I get in too much, I don't anymore. Well I try to drink 3 tall glasses of milk and I focus on protein, everything else comes last. I lift my little 10 pound weight for my arms and I have started doing squats..
But I know the feeling of losing then gaining like 2-3 pounds!
I tell myself that its the muscle we are gaining. I need to up my cardio because if I did I am sure I would start losing quicker. I am about 56 pounds down, but 9 of that was fluid from what I gained in the hospital.
Anyways...I feel ya and take care!

Noooooooooo girl you are WRONG! You HAVE had a HUGE wow moment. 46lbs in like what 9 weeks or so??? Thats friggin awesome! I do know how you feel though, I had my surgery on 08-23 and I thought oh in a couple weeks I will feel good..I STILL get tired and I STILL have to force myself ot eat practically. Of course I didnt think it would just come naturally to me, I just hoped I would fall into post op mind and just do all the right things. After my caretaker left (my mom) I stopped the protiens and the vitamins routine like she had put me on.....I learned quick you have GOT to stay on it, SOOOO you are doing TWO Things right already and you shouldnt feel down. You are DA BOMBDIGGITY chica and you rock the casbaugh (ok how is that for using stupid sayings to cheer someone up??) haha....anyway you really have done well and dont worry be happy...(sorry couldnt resist one more!)

62 pounds gone forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was in the same situation as you last week. I finally had my husband call the dietician. I was freaking. I would eat almost the same thing every day. I would eat the high protein/lowfat oatmeal for breakfast, maybe 1/4 cup with nonfat milk. I would then make a protein drink. I would put a scoop and a half of my protein with 1 1/2 cup of nonfat milk. Which gave me 2 cups of protein to drink all morning. This gave me 50 grams of protein. Then for lunch I would have some soup or beans maybe 1/4 cup. Then for dinner I would eat 2 ounces of meat with 2 ounces of potatoe, carrots, etc. I tried salad, made me sick, most chicken at restraurants makes me sick. So, I was a little frustrated. I had no bread or bread products. Then at night I would have another 8oz of protein for another 32 ounces. I figure protein from food is extra.
So, anyways my husband calls this woman and she says we are doing this all wrong. I wanted a menu. She said, that we should not have a special diet for me. I should be having 3 starches a day. Protein from meats. I should stay lowfat, low sugar and keep my portions to 1/4 cup. But to have crackers, cheese, deli meat and a couple grapes is a good meal. And let me tell you. IT IS AWESOME. My new goal is to keep my portions in check and try and make each meal balanced. I am still going to keep my protein through drinks. I too have only lost 41lbs since 19 August, but you know. I am losing. I don't think I was eating enough, so this is going to help. So, try and look at food as what you CAN have only in tiny portions. She also said try one new food at a time because we will occasionally not agree with something and that way we know what doesn't work for us. I hope this helped. Of course I do all my protein, and vitamins and water and I work out. So, as long as you are doing what your doctor ordered then you will do Great. So, take a deep breath and remember you need to stop worrying about what you are not doing and work on what you are doing...I hear you though, this is not an EASY journey, but I know it will be worth it at a year. I will keep checking on ya and make sure you do have that WOW moment. I will be there to cheer you on.....

I know what you mean about being an "igonrant" one. I felt that way at first too. Everyone tells you to prepare for it... but how can you? Personally, I did everything I could before surgery to "prepare" myself, but it still hit me like a ton of bricks after the fact, as I am sure it has many of us. Keep up the good work and good luck.
I have to admit to one WOW moment. That's when my 3 year old was talking to her daycare teacher about her "skinny daddy". WOW!
So far, I'm down a little over 40 lbs. And here's what my dietician has approved for me and is kind of an average day:
Early breakfast (about 5:30, 6:00 AM): 1/2 - 1 cup cottage cheese. (depends on how I feel)
Travel Snack (about 8:00 AM): 2 pieces string cheese
Mid Morning (from 9:00 to 10:30): 16 - 20 oz. protein shake using 2 scoops of the "Nectar" proteins. 24 g. protein per scoop 48 total.
Lunch: Small salad with some deli meat and cheese. Soft leafy greens, no carrots, etc.. I eat it slowly while I work and it takes an hour or so to eat.
Afternoon snack (2:30 ish): A protein snack bar... usually a "Quaker Q Bar". Lot's of good crunch and 10 g. of protein.
Dinner: Small portion culled from whatever the family is eating. Tonight was 6 grilled shrimp and some salad.
Late night snack: I used to be a night eater, not any more. By weighting the heavier food to later in the day, I'm just not hungry at night.
That works out to over 90 g. of protein not counting dinner.
I have found, I get tired if I don't keep my protein up. The dietician wants me at at least 90 g. a day and I can feel it if I get shy of that.
Most important, I keep the portions small and eat slowly.
I don'****ch calories or fat or carbs, etc. I make note of sugar content and avoid high sugar items. So, that sort of controlls itself. Of course, I avoid bread and the other "no nos".
Hope this helps those of us at the 3 month mark.
