LONG...please read... Okay, family, I need help...just a few days ago I posted about how great and happy I was feeling for having reached the 50+ lbs loss mark and having lost 20 inches... ...Well, I had weighed myself on Saturday (217), before going to the gym (I registered and started going with my son). We went Saturday and Sunday and worked out for almost 2 hours (including crunches, 2 different types of bikes, the treadmill, and about 15 minutes in the sauna) both on Sat and Sun... ...Then, on Tuesday, I weighed myself again (I was curious to see if I had lost anything else)...WELL, to my surprise and despair, ESCALIA (that's my digital scale's name--she talks in a woman's voice) said my weight was 222 lbs!! I nearly fell to the ground. WHAT THE...??? How is it possible to have gained 5 lbs within 3 days... Yes, I understand our weight fluctuates within days and times of the day, but up until then, the fluctuations had never been more than 1 lb (mostly ounces). AM I DONE LOSING? Is my weight going to start to go the wrong way again? I'm just 2-1/2 months out and not even close to goal. Yes, it is true that I have been somewhat constipated the last 2-3 days, but I haven't changed anything in what I eat, the frecuency or anything like that. The only change is that I started going to the gym. Could this have done it? Is my body holding on to everything I eat now? Can anyone give me any advice? Has anyone experience anything like this? Today I call my surgeon's office and spoke to one of the girls (my doc wasn't in the office). I explained to her what's happening and she suggested I wait a week, wait myself again, and if the trends continues, to call immediately and set up an appointment to see my surgeon. SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, I'm desperate... Thanks for reading this, any advice will be great! Dolly

Hi Dolly, I don't know what to say, but I didn't want to leave you without a reply. I've thankfully not had a weight gain that lasted more than a couple of days... which I would NEVER have know about if I had kept my butt off the scale until my weekly weigh-in. I know the constipation can add weight, if you've just started exercising, especially at 2 hours per day, your body may be in shock. You expended a lot of calories over the weekend and it might be waiting to see if it can still continue losing. You've called your doctor, so if I were you I would take something for the constipation, keep exercising, maybe only an hour a day, keep your water up, and keep following your doctor's plan. I can pretty much guarentee that you're not done losing weight. I've read a lot of posts and heard at support group of people who have at a stand still for up to a month and then it starts falling off again. Know that you're still on track for success in the long hall. Try not to get discouraged. Dawn

Hi Dawn! Another surgery sister! I know I have been a scale wh**e from the beginning...Although I try to force myself not to get on it for at least 3-4 days....it keeps calling me back and, in my case, it helps me stay focused and monitor what I'm doing wrong or right... I have taken dulcolax and I also ate a few prunes...hopefully this will do the trick...I'm still waiting to have a fun trip to the I sure hope everyone's right when you and others have said I'm not done losing... but it is driving me Thanks for your encouragement. I so need it! Have a wonderful day! Dolly P.S. How are you doing and how's your progress?

Hi Dolly, I'm with you on the siren call of the scale. I'm right there with you on stepping on it almost every time I'm in the bathroom! Anyway, I'm doing great so far. Since July 5th I've lost 64 lbs (18 pre-op, the rest post-op) and 34". I'm 53% of the way to goal and seem to have settled into a 3 lb per week weight loss. Saw my doc for my 3-month check-in Wed. and he says I'm actually losing slightly faster than they prefer (8-10 lbs per month) so I expect reality will hit soon. I also know though that my body likes to lose weight... the issue is that it likes to gain it back even quicker! Dawn

Dolly I agree with Dawn. I had some contispation issues last week, and I managed to 'put on' 3 lbs during that 3 day period. When everything got moving tho, that came right back off. Plus, your excersise, like Dawn said, your body is hanging on for dear life to everything it gets til it figures out that you aren't really sapping it of all it's food and nutrients with the work outs. Hang in there sweetie! It'll come right back off and more will come with it in no time!

Remember, if you are working out, Muscle weighs more than fat, so as you work out, you MAY go up a few lbs, but it won't last. That muscle will keep burning for you and the weight will come back off. Just be sure you're eating the protein, drinking water (Your body needs extra water to shed fat.) You'll be fine! Good Luck!

Dear Dolly! I too have gained a few pounds here and there after the surgery, but they always come off. Other than constipation and water retention, one good reason to increase somebody's weight would be muscle build-up... muscle weigh more than fat....It's hard to think that it happened in just 2 days working out in your Gym, but you never know...... Anyway, don't drive yourlef nuts with it (Iknow, Iknow, easier said than done). measure inches, keep positive attitude, and things will go right...I'm sure.. Hugs, Rita (stuck at 45 lb loss for 2 weeks)
