hi all.......anyone have 8/15 surgery date??
i had my surgery on aug. 15 and i have barely just lost 30 lbs. i often see postings where people have already lost atleast that much. i sometimes wonder if i am doing something wrong. sometimes i am not sure if i am eating too much. when i worry if i am eating too much, i eat less, so then i wonder if i am not eating enough. does anyone have these similar situations??
I had surgery 8/17. I went for a follow up today and he said most people lose between 20 to 30 pounds by this time. Sounds to me like your right on track.
I happened to lose 50 pounds since my surgery but, I had serious complications and have been in the hospital for 2 months since my surgery. I just came home this past Friday. I've lost a total of 65 pounds since I started the program. Everyone is differerent, you're doing good!!!

I had surgery on the 18th just a couple of days after you. I've lost 50lbs so far BUT I also had a strictre and didn't know it for 10 days and I could not keep anything down. Everyone is different and you can't compare yourself to them plus they may have a lot more weight to loose then you do. I also wonder if I'm eating too much, too less. Oh and one nice thing to look at when the scale isn't moving like you want is your measurements. I was at a stand still for over a week but i was loosing inches.

I can definately relate. I had my surgery on 8/19 and I have lost 33 pounds. I exercise everyday and do all my calcium and vitamins and drink two shakes with 66 grams of protein a day. Anything I eat is extra protein. My doctor said 65 grams a day (minimum). I drink at least 48 oz of water and with my other drinks, I get 64 oz a day. I am following all my doctors orders, plus exercising and it does get discouraging when people 6 wks out have lost 45-50 pounds...but I just stop and realize that I am losing and I am doing everything I am suppose to. I also stopped weighing myself every day. I weigh myself on Mondays and Fridays. I am also trying to think positive. If I get to goal in 1 year I will be happy, and if I lose it slower that will be okay because I will have less lose skin. That is my goal....
I think alot has to do with how overweight you are when you start the program. I have lost 55 lbs to date. I had my surgery on 8/15, have had no complications, knock on wood, and am getting in all my protein and water. I am a slacker when it comes to my exercise, but I'm working on it. Even though we all had our surgery at similar times, I really do believe it matters how much you have to loose. I have heard that the more overweight you are the faster you loose initally. As you get closer to your goal it gets slower. I am only 5'2, my BMI was 63 when I started and I weighed 344lbs. I have an awful lot to loose. I think thats why it's coming off alot now, we'll see if it keeps up with the pace for awhile, I sure hope so. I think you are right on track. This early in the race we are all winners!!!!!!!! Just remember how long it would have taken you to loose 30lbs. before this surgery?!?!?!?!?!?!

Hi there! I had my surgery on August 16, 2005 and have lost a total of 43 lbs. I started out weighing 297 with a BMI of 51. I'm not sure of what your weight was before surgery, but I think weight loss has a lot to do with how much you have to lose. The more the faster. If you're following your Dr.'s orders, then you should be fine. Stop comparing yourself to others. Besides, when was the last time you lost 30 lbs in 8 weeks?!?!?!?! Never? Be proud of what you've lost. Have you dropped any inches or clothes sizes? I would concentrate on inches, not the DEVIL scale, lol. Hope this helps.

I agree with the last two posters. I had surgery on 8/11 and weighed 335 with a BMI of 51. I'm 5'7". I've lost 65 pounds so far. I had problems early on with getting enough protein. I could not tolerate whey protein. I finally ordered some soy protein and that works great for me. I get at least 50 g of protein from my shake and one high protein pudding (another find). The rest comes from my food. Most days I get a minimum of 64 oz of water...some days much less and boy can I tell! I have recently returned to the gym after getting the clearance from my Dr.
Everyone is different and loses at a different pace. Try not to get discouraged. If you are doing what your doctor recommends, then you should be fine and the weight will eventually come off. Keep you head up and congrats on the loss!
I had my surgery on the 17th and started out very slow. In fact, I plateaued after a mere two weeks! I was so depressed. That lasted a little over 2 weeks and then when it broke, I started losing more rapidly. I've lost a total of 45 since surgery. I think I'm losing more now because I was put back on liquids for the next week or so due to esophagial spasms. I don't have a stricture, but the spasms are forcing everything back up, no matter how slowly I eat. It's frustrating, but I guess since my surgeon is not too concerned, I won't be either (for now!)
Everyone's right, though...when was the last time we were able to lose so much so soon, so I am thankful for every pound lost!
