How many ounces is everyone eating?
I am supposed to be eating 4 Tablespoons per meal and my open RNY was 8/23/2005. I'm not able to eat both of the plastic medicine cups they gave me at the hospital yet but am working mostly on my 60 oz protein, all my vitamins and liquids per day. I keep introducing my new pouch to the new things but am not as worried about that if I am steadily working on the other things first for my general healing and health. I know the tummy will gradually accept food so am not very worried about that.
I eat 4-6 tablespoons, depending on what is it. 5.33 tablespoons is = to 1/3 cup of food or 3 oz. Soup is usually 6 tablespoons and meat is 4. I do tend to not take a half hour, I take about 20 minutes. I don't drink 30 minutes before or after. I have also never eating to the feeling of full. I am also on pureed foods for another two weeks. My doc requires 8 weeks of pureed foods. So, 4 oz, which is 1/2 cup seems like a lot to me, but if you are not getting sick and you are not feeling full, I don't know. Are you having any problems.
Hi Wendy,
I don't have a clue how many ounces I'm eating as I don't measure. What I do know is that I usually get in one "large" meal that will consist of about 3 oz of protein and a couple of slices or pieces of fruit/veggies. My other 2 meals vary quite a bit. Sometimes I can eat maybe 1 egg, others, like today almost 2. Like you though I almost never take the 20 minutes I'm supposed to take, though when I do I usually get more food in than when I'm full in 10 minutes.
I wouldn't think it's sabotaging yourself to eat too quickly, at least not at the beginning. It may in the long term if we find we're getting hungry too early.

Hi Wendy,
I am eating about 4 oz of food on average.... more like 6 oz on liquid foods like yogurt or soup.... meat more like 3 oz... about 1/2 of a small chicken breast... Usually 1 soft boiled egg fills me up...
I also have trouble eating slowly... I try, but I forget... I also have trouble with the no drinking durring the meal, but I am working on it... I am just a thirsty person!
Take care!

I am only eating about 2-3T. per sitting. I do notice that I am starting to experience hunger sometimes now. I don't really eat to "full" either I guess. I'm supposed to work up to 4T or 1/4 cup by 3 months out. I am happy with my weight loss so far. It takes me about 20 minutes.

Hi Wendy,
I had surgery 8/26 and can eat about 2-3 oz.
For breakfast today I had a 1 egg omelet with a little lowfat cheese and mild salsa.
For lunch I had 2 oz of tuna, 1 ritz cracker, 2 teaspoons of fruit ****tail and 2 teaspoons of asparagus.
Snack - 1 sugar free fudscicle (I rarely have a snack)
For dinner I will have a string cheese, 1 ritz cracker.
Perhaps another string cheese at bedtime.
And I will try to have 35 grams of protein shake.
I thought I might be eating too much. Spoke with nurse at Doctors who says that I am doing fine with this diet. Hope this helps.
I have just begun eating 4 oz of protein (chicken, fish, ground beef) with about 5 string beans or soft veggie and 2 to 3 tsp of mashed taters or something else that's soft like that. It takes me 45 to 1 hour to eat this but I haven't been getting in enough caleries and I stalled for 3 weeks, which was a bummer.
I am now getting approx 950 to 1,050 caleries a day since last Friday (after visit with surgeon that didn't go well) and have lost 3 pounds since that time.
It is so hard to even want to eat, although when I wake up now, I do feel hungry for the first time since surgery.
