Comparing Symptoms....

My surgery was on August 4th. I am back to solid foods. I have lost 38 pounds so far... and I have been stuck for the last week. I know the scale will move again. I get discouraged that I don't get sick from eating.. I know it is wierd, but everyone seems to get sick and I feel like if I am not getting sick, then this did not work. I also have not really had that "full" feeling, although I do not think that you are supposed to get to that point. I am fine with my protein (see the other post), but sometimes I do not want to eat at all. Other times I almost feel hungry b/t meals and I will have a few low fat wheat thins, then I convince myself that I should never do that or else I will never lose weight and all of this was in vain. I know it sounds crazy. I also feel like when I go to bed at night, I fall into a deep coma - - my alarm will sound for 10-15 minutes before I hear it, then it is unreal trying to get out of bed. Sometimes I will hit the snooze button 4-5 times and stay in bed an extra hour. I just wanted to see if anyone else was like this at all.... Thanks for reading my babble..... (And just a helpful hint on walking.. I have an ipod that has made walking more enjoyable. At first, I was listening to music, but then I got some audiobooks. Now I listen to those, and sometimes it is hard to stop walking until I find out what happens next.)

Hi Faith, I'm not sure why I didn't think of audio books until I read your message. I have a MP3 player that I've been listening to as I exercise so you got me off and searching. I found this site that seems to work like a library. Here's the site: http://seoebook.seo.lib.oh.us/E09CDCA8-02B4-4357-BC6D-3BF610F7D955/10/96/en/default.htm I'm glad that I can try a download to see if it will work on my player since I my MP3 player isn't one of the popular brands. I also like that I can download chapters at a time so I don't have to worry about buying larger memory cards. By the way... I'm about the same place you are time wise, and I'm still getting home at the end of the day exhausted, though unlike you, I slept through the night for the 1st time since surgery 2 nights ago. Since I'm basically only allowed veggies & fruits in a 1:3 protein balance I'm not having too much of an issue getting my protein in. When I start to get those hunger rumbles between meals I up my water (what my group calls "water loading") and that usually takes care of it. On the weekend I tend to only eat 2 meals, and I've been told that often that's the case, especially as we're able to get more and more food in at a time. Thanks for the reminder about audio books and as long as your doctor is happy with how you're eating/doing, don't worry that you've had an easy post-op, just be glad. Dawn

Oh, Faith..... what a great idea.....I can't beleive I've never thought of it myself....I listen to audiobooks in my car, and I love it... so why not , when walking, right? As to what you described about sleeping "as if in coma", I haven't noticed it....no sleep patern changes since the surgery, but I can certainly relate to everything else you said...my surgery was on 08/08/05.... and so far---34-35 lb. lost, and none of it last week o so......I'm not upset about it yet... all I want is that in a year or so I'm down about a 100 lb... not more.... so there is no rash.... I exersize just about 5 days /week... walking and water Aerobics... so far I love it... as well as I'm very happy about the decision to have this surgery ( it was a VERY-VERY hard decision for me honestly) Anyway, take care of yourself, best wishes , Rita

Hi Faith, I do get sick from eating, however, I crash and have a hard time waking up in the morning to get to work. I even try to get my kids to go to bed earlier then there bedtime. I have been rushed in the mornings and want to start to work out in the mornings before work. I hope this phase ends soon. I used to only get 6-7 hours of sleep now it is more like 9-10 per night. I am tired as well and the anti nausea pills really made me tired. Other web sites swear by sub lingual B-12. I am doing that now. I think its just such a huge change going on in our bodies right now and a lack of calories that it makes sense to feel tired right?
