Hi - My surgery was 8/22/05. I am burping constantly now - I never did before. The nurse just laughed & said it went along with it, and didn't it feel good. The only discomfort I have when eating or drinking is if I drink too much at a time or take too big a mouthful. Then I get a squeezing pain in my chest that goes to my back. I also tried pureed pork last week, and afterwards I felt that pain for 2 days whenever I ate or drank anything. The nurse said my pouch was sore from the pork. I went back on liquids for a day & all is fine now. I just have to remember to drink slowly. Hope this helps a little. I don't know what you are eating. I am still on blended foods but hope to go to mashed this week after I see the nurse tomorrow. I wouldn't hesitate to call the nurse, though. Have a great day! Hugs, Laura

Hi Laurie, I'm 5 weeks out & the only time I get the pain in my chest is when I drink to fast or eat to fast. Burping is very common with this surgery. I usually take the burping as a sign of my pouch being full because I still haven't felt the "full" feeling. I'm not hungry by any means, but my Dr. said it takes time to feel the full feeling. You may want to try using a timer and set it for 3-5 minutes between bites. That really helps me because I'm not real good at judging times between bites. I actually had my first experience with eating way to fast the other day & vomitted. Lesson learned.... My sister incurred a stricture at 3 weeks post op & she got pain every time she ate or drank. She also started to notice that it was taking her alot longer to drink something. She did start to vomit & contacted the Dr. right away. My advice to you, is to try & slow down some between bites, or even sips when drinking. If the pain continues, or you start to vomit, contact your Dr. You can also talk to your Dr. about chewable prevacid if you believe it's pain caused by acid build up. If it continues, your Dr. may either have you get an upper GI or an endoscopy which are both pretty easy procedures. My sister had an endoscopy right away because she has had previous surgeries & knows that her body produces scar tissue really easily. A stricture is when scar tissue is formed where the intestine is attached to the bottom of your pouch causing the opening to constrict. Good Luck & keep us posted Tammy

Laurie! Hello! My surgery was 8/25/05....MY doctor recomends Gas-X gelcaps for gas. They are easy to swallow and breakdown almost immediately. They have really helped me with burping and that other lovely excess gas. I hope you get some relief soon. Hi Laurie, I just had a procedure to dilate my stricture. The symptoms that I had was anytime I tried to eat or drink I would vomit. This went on for 10 days. I could not keep anything down after they scoped me and dilated the stricture I feel much better. As far has gas and burping I think that its par for the course. To help with passing gas I try to walk and it seems to help and I burp all the time or I get the hicups. Hope this helps. Debbie

I'm leaving in about an hour to have my third dilation for a stricture. My symptoms were no pain but extreme nausea with vomiting every thing from little sips of water. As for gas there is a chewable gas-x that i have that seems to work.
