How do you get your Protein
Hi Julianna,
Until Monday when I get my new menu options, I drink a protein shake (Carb Solutions) with an extra scoop of protein powder (BeneProtein) for 26 grams. Then my other 2 meals consist of any of the following - 1-3 slices of turkey with upto a slice of lowfat cheese; 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese; 1 scrambled egg w/ 1 tbsp cottage cheese and 1/4 c cheese; or 1/2 cup of chili. Sometimes I eat fish and the last week I've thrown in some chicken breast (which is technically a no-no). When I actually can eat it all, I get in about 50ish, with my actual goal between 60 & 65. We're not expected to get in our total protein in yet as it basically is just impossible with our stomach sizes.
Dawn
I tend to average about 65 grams per day except for week one where I was around 55. I get most of my protein from the shake I do once a day and from the milk I use to make it. Let me tell you, I detest most protein powders but have found a couple that I love. For the first few weeks out I couldn't stand the thick shakes so I did the Sunrise Orange Crystal Light and the Fuzzy Navel Nectar. I have recently discovered my FAVORITE, it is the Protein Delight brand and the flavor is Strawberry White Chocolate. I am extremely sensitive to protein smell and taste and this has NONE! It tastes just like strawberry milk. I also like the egg protein powder instead of the whey. I bought a basic vanilla and chocolate at The Vitamin Shoppe and my favorite way to make those is to mix one scoop of vanilla with 8oz milk and then add two orange s/f popsicles and blend. It makes a very faint orange creamsicle, not overpowering but yummy! I have also put in two cherry popsicles with the chocolate powder.
As far as food is concerned, I haven't been eating enough but started a new plan that my nutritionist gave me yesterday. I am to have 6oz of yogurt everyday which adds around 8g of protein. Then three meals of at least two oz of quality protein such as meats, cheeses, eggs, cottage cheese etc. I also eat two oz fruit and two oz veg per day. I can't quite get all that in yet but I'm working on it. I have been losing slow over the past couple of weeks due to not eating enough. So now I have this plan and hopefully it will do the trick!
Hope some of that helped and good luck!
