HI everyone, I had my rny on Aug 24th and I think that I really have messed up. At first my lungs collapsed and I went home on protein shakes for two weeks - never got more than 50 grams in - now after my 2 week post op I can have ground meat, etc. Well of course I have a cold and have been throwing up ( I have no idea why ?). So what can I take for the cold and throwing up. I am sick of the no carb stuff like you all and can't get down a protein shake anymore - the nutritionist says to just concentrate on water until I get better - this is awful - I know that I am rambling - but I am very upset and feel that this is the worst thing I ever did for myself - I could really use some help right now - I too am depressed and just could care less about my weight loss - I know that sounds stupid - but why did I do this - mind you hubby had the surgery 3 weeks before me and is doing great! I miss my life and being able to get around. So far these past three weeks have been one thing after another . I have never gotten my protein in and can't seem to stand it. Did I do the right thing? I have 2 year old twins and I miss being with them and playing - but I am so sick all of the time that I can't do anything with them. Juli

I'm sorry that you're not feeling too good. I had lap-RNY on Aug. 22nd. I still don't get in all my protein either. I don't know what you can take being sick, but you might try some liquid protein to mix into your water or SF drinks. Someone on the site said that they drink liquid protein shots (like tequila) in their drinks. Also, Isopure mixed in with SF drinks or Powerade/Gatorade might help get your energy level up. Are you able to take your vitamins? What does your doctor say about you feeling so badly? You might want to ask for a mild anti-depressant and about getting you better. It's common after WLS. Remember, you did this surgery to regain your health and feel better. Eventually, it should happen. Stay strong. I'm praying for you. Jackie B

Hi Julianna, I see nothing in your post where you messed up. I'm sorry your having such a hard time, but you will get better. Getting in liquids is the most important thing right now, not only to stave off dehydration, but also to help you get over your cold. A very smart doctor once told me, "the solution to pollution is dillution" meaning when you are sick, your body is polluted, therefore dillute it with fluids. Water, apple juice, crytal light, iced tea and hot tea are all good choices. Also, you should call your surgeon about the vomiting, in case it's not related to your cold. Also check with him on what medications you can take to relieve your symptoms. He's already been paid to give you follow-up care. No concern is too small. You can also give your pcp a call and tell him about your depression--he may be able to take care of that. From what I understand, temporary depression is quite common after this surgery. As for your twins, since Daddy is doing so well, let him play with them for a while, and when you feel better, you'll be back to doing what you love to do. And although it's hard to think of now, when you do get better and loose your weight, you'll have alot more energy and be a much better playmate for the kids. By the way, I'm a little over a month out, still not getting my protein or fluids in, but I just ordered some new stuff, so hopefully I'll hit on a winner. Good luck and give your body and your mind time to heal.

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I, like you, am struggling with protein intake. I dislike the taste of whey very much. So, I don't like carb freedom yogurt or isopure. Unfortunately I found this out after buying a $50 box of it. So I just drink plain milk or carnation good start. If you can't handle that do what the people who you pay say. My nurse and I keep on saying this stage is temporary. Girl, Keep on pressing them for as much information as you need. I know you don't want to go back to the hospital for any reason. So make them work for your money. I took Robitussin for my cold. Your Surgeon's staff is there to help you. Good luck with the twins. Kids are resilent. They learn to adapt to mommy's condition right now. And when you feel better, you can make up for lost time. One more thing(I'm putting this in caps so it will stand out) DON'T BE HARD ON YOURSELF!!!! You have gone through a major operation with complications. You havent eaten anything of substance in over three weeks. You keep your head up and remember the reasons you went through this procedure in the first place. It will get better. God Bless

Julianna, Sorry you are feeling bad. I had lap/RNY on 8/23 and was very sick the first week home. I was told by my physician's assistance to drink gatorade since I was so nauseous and was not getting much down. It made me dump. When I saw my nut this past week she freaked out about the gatorade suggestion. So I guess I would tread with caution with using the gatorade. Hang in there. Lynne

I stuck with water, sf koolaid, tea and crystal light. I took Gas-X and that really helped my stomach. Lynne
