I had my surgery on 8/18 and I have had about 5 vomiiting episodes. I am going back and looking in my journal and it seems that all my vomitting is occuring after I eat chicken breast. Has anyone else experienced this? It also seems to me like breakfast goes the best and dinner but lunch seems to be the time I am having problems with.

I had surgery on 8/1 and I still cannot eat any kind of meat unless it is pureed. I've tried chicken, ground beef and pork. I've tried different ways of cooking the meat. But, the pouch just isn't ready. SO, I continue with pureed meats and refried beans. I did try some chili, which was mostly beans. That stayed down but it was very heavy in my stomach. I'm trying not to rush the eating - vomitting is just no fun!!

I have whole days when I lose it, and days when I eat fine. Yesterday, no matter what I took in, came back out the hard way From tofu, to soup! Today, so far, so good, but then, all I've had is a protein shake, a couple of spoons of cream of wheat and water. I just never know, and thankfully, I see my surgeon next week, so he can hopefully answer these questions!

The only chicken breast I have eaten is the tyson canned chunk style. But I did read in my book the hospital gave me, that many patients cannot tolerate chicken breasts, so I would guess you're right. Try not eating it and maybe try again in 6 months or so?

Hi- As I explained in a post to Julie- you may want to ask your doctor for a script for compazine- its a suppository. I had nausea day2 in the hospital and after they gave me this- never had it again-everything stays down. My surgeon did tell me until you are in week 5- everything should be blenderized- I didnt like tuna or meat blenderized - but I did eat baby food- like fruit- and soup- you can also have saltines- and cottage cheese and eggs with cheese and salsa. I love spicy foods still. I did try chicken and pork chops, and london broil, meatballs with lots of sauce- but not all at once. It has to be moist and you have to cut the food to the size of an eraser on a pencil (that is my rule of thumb) and I do not eat fast- I make myself slow down. I try to have something like watermelon or applesauce or baby fruit- so I know it will go down okay. Many people say chicken or steak give them a problem- and my surgeon said not to do stea****il week 6. I didn't know that the pouch was still healing and you needed time. SO keep that in mind- and that maybe why your breakfast goes down ok. I would hold off on chicken another week. Feel Better - Donna

Hi Kate, The only way I can eat chicken is either to make sure it's very wet with a little soup on it or a little low-fat mayo. My doctor did tell me to try getting one of those whole rotissere chickens like from Albertsons - they do them in different flavors. He said the meat on that is the moistest you will find. I did that last week and he was right - the only thing is unless you have a family that will eat the rest of it - you're wasting your money. My doctor also told me to wait another two months on any beef. Hang in there. Terri
