I MISS MY CARBS!!!

I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow, and I can't take it anymore!!! If I eat one more egg or piece of cheese I will scream. Raw fruits and vegetables are off limits until the next week or 2. I am right on target with getting my protein in daily, but it is getting downright BORING. I've sneaked a few crackers in, just to give the peanut butter/chicken salad/tuna salad something to sit on. I hate bananas, but love apples, which I can't have yet. And I've never been a fan of canned fruit, but I'm dealing with it for now. I ate a lot of raw fruits and veggies pre-op, as well as getting my protein in. Now I feel like I'm in Atkin's-land. Is anyone else struggling with this? I know this is a temporary stage, but I'm still that I can't eat healthier carbs now. I would kill for a real salad . Thanks for listening Michelle

I hear you, Michelle. I don't have much advice but I know where you are coming from. It could be worse though. You could still be on honey consistency food like me. I go for my three week (and one day) check up tomorrow and I am salivating for something I can chew. Keep up the good work and know you are not alone. Oh BTW, I call myself going to "lunch" with my husband yesterday. He had an enchilada and taco, you know real food. I had unsweet tea and Splenda. but the good thing about it is how good I felt I looked.

That is something to be proud of! 23 pounds in such a short time - you go girl! And I hope they will put you on more solid foods soon tomorrow. I was happy as a clam, but was shocked to see I could only eat half an egg right out the gate. Thanks for writing back, and keep up the good work! Michelle

I've done a graham cracker with peanut butter, it was yummy, but filled me up! I've had homemade chili, yesterday, I made lasagna using thin slices of zucchini instead of the pasta, it turned out very good. I went to the Chinese food place and got tofu and mixed veggies, could only eat a couple of tablespoons, but it was well worth it. And yesterday, I had 1/4 piece of toast, it was soooo good! And I didn't have any problems, as I chewed, chewed chewed and chewed some more. I'm like you all, I do get bored with the usual.

I want a salad bad! I forgot how much I like salad. Salad is suppose to be diet food! I'm not really missing bread that much. But I know I am going to miss pasta pretty soon. Marsha, I need that lasagna using thin slices of zucchini recipe. And Amy you are very wrong to bring up Buffalo wings... go get some and just lick the sauce off of your fingers. I might help. Take care Pam

Hey Pam, I browned a pound of the leanest ground beef I could find, then added a can of sugar-free spaghetti sauce which I "touched up a little" with herbs and splenda (we like a slightly sweeter sauce here). I put a bit of the sauce in a baking dish, placed thinly sliced raw zucchini over the sauce, then (fat-free cottage cheese mixed with one egg, basil and parsley) then lots and lots of skim-milk mozzarella. Covered it with the rest of the sauce, another cup of shredded mozzarella and baked 50 minutes in a 350 degree over. Even the non-WLS folks at my house loved it! And I made up some 2-4 ounce containers for myself to reheat, they're in the freezer already

Thought of a "salad" to try with the lasagna. Take one can of black olives, drained, one jar of green olives, drained 8-10 pieces of mozzarella string cheese, diced two cups of cherry tomatoes (or grape tomatoes) Toss together, use the Italian dressing of your choice. It's pretty yummy, don't even miss the pasta that I used to put in it.
