Depression after WLS??
I was just wondering if anyone is dealing with depression after WLS? I've been dealing with depression now for almost two years and I'm on medication. Before WLS I was doing pretty good haven't had a real sad moment in a long time but after surgery I find myself almost in tears at different times. I guess after surgery I had a lot of people around and then once I started feeling good and went back to work everyone kind of forgot about me. I find myself not even wanting to talk to people and I avoid answering the telephone. Just curious if anyone else went through this or still is and how long it took for things to get better.
Thanks,
Debbie
I did go through some crying and wondering what I did, but my reasoning is because I was missing my "food". Commercials on TV would bother me and the family eating here at home would bother me, but it passed and I am doing much better.
I read the message posted on 9-10-05 labeled "Hibernation Syndrome". Read that, it is a perfect article and explains exactly what you are describing. Good luck and let me know how you are doing.

Hi Debbie,
Carrie summed it up pretty well, plus if you go back to mid-Aug. time frame in the postings you'll see a lot of that topic. Week 3 seems to be the worst and then as your body is getting used to reduced amount of food and your body starts to fully recover from the surgery, the hormones seem to get a chance to level out. That at least is how I went and what the RN in charge of my program says a lot of folks do.
Go do something as a treat for yourself. I had a pedicure for the 1st time and it was just a super treat! Did a lot to help me start my attitude adjustment.
Good luck!

Hi Debbie.
I had no real depression before surgery but in the past month since surgery I have been very down, questioning my decision and just in a general funk. The article mentioned in the above post really helped me to know I am not alone. Things will get better, my mood has lightened considerably even though I am losing slower than most people. Hope you feel better soon!
