I'm six weeks post op and still can't "stomach" chicken, or any other meet for that matter. I tried chicken again today and no matter how much I chewed, it still just wouldn't go/stay down. I do fine with all other soft foods - refried beans, cheese, etc. I even ate half of a low fat biscuit. Meat, other than pureed, just doesn' work.

Hi all, As long as I stayed with high-end sliced chicken and turkey I didn't have any problems. The only time I did was when I ate the packaged, regular lunch meat, and a piece got stuck over the exit whole. Not fun. I'm six weeks tomorrow and I started yesterday roasted chicken breast, but I made sure I added some moisture. Have you tried fish, eggs, or tofu? I hope you can stomach meat soon as it's the best source of protein obviously. Dawn

I can eat grilled chicken breast, etc. I have been cutting it small and chewing it well and I have not had any trouble with it. I can also eat lunch meats like chicken, turkey, and ham. I have yet to try ground beef.. that sort of scares me because it is very difficult to chew up. I have not had anything come back up on me as of yet... and I sure don't want to, either! During a day I basically eat cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, pickle slices, I have tried pasta and that works out well, so has any type of soup, including chili. Eggs do fine too.. I am just over four weeks post op and in the 'soft foods' phase. I am going to do some canned fruit (no sugar added) tonight. The protein shakes I try to do twice per day.. but I think they are yucky so it is hard. The water is what I need to really focus on, I do not get the recommended amount yet.. but if I drink too much I am NEVER hungry, then I don't eat! It is a dilemma. I hope you begin to tolerate it soon... my husband soaks the chicken in water for about 30 minutes before he grills it, that is supposed to make it retain more moisture and not be dry.. it has been fabulous, so maybe he is on to something. Keep in touch. Kimberli

I haven't had any problem with chicken or with ground beef. As a matter of fact, tonight I made lasagna, using zucchini instead of pasta noodles. My family of nondieters liked it as well. I, of course, could only enjoy about 2-3 ounces, and it was yummy...and very cheesy

Funny I came across your post. I just posted something similar. Chicken has not gone well for me at all. I am frustrated by that cuz I really do like it. Do you get that really tight pain in your pouch from it? That is what I get and then it leads to nausea and then to vommiting to make myslef feel better.

I was a little adventurous and mainly starving b/c I stayed at school late for PTA and Parent Night. A teacher offered me one of those 2.5 oz cans of chicken salad already prepared. She buys them in bulk at Sam's. I must say I was scared to eat any of it, but I was really hungry (surprisingly). I went ahead and slowly ate a little more than 1/2. It was yummy and didn't hurt me, thankfully. Ok, I'll confess, today I even felt more adventurous. I bought 1 chicken leg at Church's, took off all the skin, put the meat in my electric chopper, and slowly ate it. I took one bite then waited about 15 minutes. No pain so I ate a little more. It was delicious. Ok, I'm not going to make it a habit, but it was really good to eat a piece of real meat, ok chicken, you know. I really shouldn't have risked it, but thankfully, I didn't get sick or have any pain. I'm still on pureed/blended foods for about 1-1/2 more weeks. So, back on track tomorrow. (The chicken was blended though). Jackie B. OH should have a True Confessions Messageboard for these types of things. Jackie B.

I guess this shows how different each of us is. I can eat freshly baked chicken if it is moist (dark meat) or from a crock pot. I can eat almost one small piece with some mashed potatoes. I am six weeks out and doing fine with just about everything that I am supposed to eat but make sure nothing is to firm. I chew well. Maybe your tummy is telling you that you are not ready. Try blending the chicken with baked potato and chicken broth- it is really yummy and healthy too. Good luck. Susan Milner
