Hey all. I had my surgery 8/23. So far I am down 20 pounds. I am having trouble with my protein shakes. They are not the most appealing thing. I have to force myself to drink them. Can someone recommend some shakes that they really like? I am starting to get stuck in my weight loss and I know it is because I am not getting in all of my protein. Crissy

Hi Crissy! I know what you mean. I have spent so much money trying different things. I finally found one I like. www.unjury.com has protein powder that makes a delicious shake. No weird aftertaste at all. I like the strawberry flavor the best, it reminds me of Strawberry Quik. I've wanted to try that nectar stuff I hear so much about, but unfortunately it is sweetened with sucralose (Splenda) and I can't tolerate that. (It causes diarrhea in some people, me included.) If you want to try the Unjury, you can purchase sample packets first for $1.75 each. They ship it really quickly, too. Good luck!

I'm suffering with you. I'm using carb solution which is what they were using at the hospital. I finally found if I use one scoop of powder with 1 cop of milk it's OK. I put the milk and three ice cubes in the blender first, the powder on top and blend for about 30 seconds. Taste is OK but the clumps were killing me. I too have ordered a couple of varieties of the necter and hope they get here before I go back to work on Monday. No way I can mix these shakes there. Cheers, Torrey

I hear ya! im still working on getting those shakes down. i use carb solutions and its really not that bad but it gets nauseating day after day, for a change of pace i drink blue bunny carb freedom yogurt smoothies they are pretty good with 13g of protien and just 5g sugar they do have splenda in them but luckily I have no problem with splenda. im still on liquids for 2 more weeks but look forward to being able to eat as ive found some very low sugar protien bars that pack 40g protien.. looks a lot better than these shakes..i did try nectar lemonade stand, and maybe i didnt mix it right but it was the consistency of raw eggs. no way was i drinking it. but i hear a lot of good reviews on it so i prob didnt mix it right..good luck and hang in there

I'm having trouble getting in my protein as well. I had lap-RNY on Aug. 22. I just bought the Isopure drinks at GNC (20 oz. for $3.50). I bought the Alpine Punch and mixed it with SF Hawaiin Punch. I drank it all day long. The Isopure 20 oz. bottle has 40 g. protein. I also bought some Promedis Chocolate Royale 8.2 oz drink boxes that have 15 g. protein. The drink is okay. It does have the powdery taste but after a few swallows you don't taste it much. I bought that at www.I-ShopHere.Biz. They also sent me about 15 samples for free. The Tex-Mex Chili was great. I also just bought the Carb Countdown Milk to try over the weekend. Let me know if you come across anything really good. Jackie B.

It's hard to find one that you really like, but luckily my sister was 7 weeks before me & had ordered all kinds of protein drinks. Of course I sampled them all. The nectar Fuzzy Naval is great. On bariatriceating.com you can order a sample pack & that will give you a really go variety. You can mix them with water, milk or juice. I personally have been drinking the Extreme Smoothies by VHT. Chocolate, Cappuccino, & praline are great. I do have the vanilla & add sf nesquick & it tastes like chocolate milk. You can order them off line at bariatriceating.com or vitacost.com. I also found them at GNC. They are made with skim milk so no yucky aftertaste and they are ready to drink so no mixing. One 11 oz can has 35 grams of protein. Good luck Tammy

Costco has a big jug of Sport Pharma Protein Whey Shake, chocolate flavor. I mix it with skim milk, and it's pretty good. I have two double batches a day, 88 grams of protein. Down 25 lbs since 8/25 surgery.

Hi! I had surgery on 8/26 and have also been searching for ways to get in enough protein. The highest gram protein shakes I have found that taste good are: ABB Pure Pro Shake - cookies & creme (GNC) very good with 35 g. protein and 170 calories, 2 g.sugar, 5 g.carbs. and Worldwide Pure Protein shake - Trader Joes carries: choc., vanilla and strawberry and GNC carries banana creme (good). Each shake has 35 grams of protein, 160 calories, 1 g. sugar, 2 g. carbs. I have not tasted strawberry, I'm allergic, but my friends have told me that it is good. One post op adds 1 or 2 strawberries and blends smooth for a good shake. There is also a Worldwide Pure Protein Cappuccino shake that taste good but it has only 21 g. protein, 100 calories, 1 g.sugar and 4 carbs. Another good way to get protein - Trader Joe's carries: Designer Whey, protein powder - natural flavor. (purple can) It is a powder protein with no taste that you can add to your soups, sugar free pudding and yogurt for extra protein. 1 scoop has 19 g. protein, 90 calories, 2 g. sugar and 2 g. carbs. I add about 1/4 of a scoop to my soup, pudding and yogurt (mix it really good) and it give me 4.5g of extra protein. Be careful not to add too much or it gets too thick. Also, to save money - GNC has a discount card and you can save 20% during the beginning of the month and 20% off the first day you sign-up. And, my GNC has a cold refridgerator section. Great for getting a cold protein drink while walking in the mall and good for taste testing before purchasing a lot. Ps. congrats on your weightloss. 20 pounds! You are doing great! I have lost 14 pounds. We are both on our way to being skinny! Yipee!
