im suprised at the differences in allowable eating after surgery. im on liquids for 1 month after surgery. going ok as i dont have much of an appetite at least (physically). one thing concerned my as last night i ate 1/2 cup blended soup-1/2 cup sf butterscotch pudding and 8 0z protien shake within 3 hours w/o feeling too full or uncomfortable is that bad? i got some good ideas on protein stuff, as those shakes are getting boring and they are so expensive. now today i dont feel like eating anything just sipping on diluted apple juice for now. ive been lucky so far with no nausea or keeping food down, kind of afraid to start really eating again, with what i read about not tolerating foods and getting plugged up.

I could tolerate a bit more liquids than was recommended as well. My doctor told me this is because they begin to go right through you and do not stay in your pouch long. I was on pureed foods after two weeks and was also able to add some soft foods. I do really well and can eat a variety of things now such as chili beans, canned soups with veggies, etc, hard and scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, cheese sticks, mac n cheese (mooshed) and mashed potatoes. I try to avoid the high cal dishes and focus on the soups and protein shakes a lot. Getting 60 grams of protein per day is tuff! When you do start eating again, just eat very small amounts, do not try for a half cup even though you can do it with liquids. So far I have avoided any dumping or making myself too full, knock on wood! Most foods go down ok if you chew the heck out of them. It is kinda gross chewing one bite so much, but it makes a big difference in digestion. Best of luck to you! Kimberli

well yesterday i thought i overdid it. was worried the pouch wasnt working, but i guess it is, because today i cant get hardly anything in..protein shake takes about an hour. cant wait till i can have solids,,,the sf protein bars look a lot better than these shakes.
