I had my surgery on 8-11-05 and things were kinda scary. I've had to get creative to keep from getting board with my eating. I found that the hardest part of it all was, not being able to do much and I seemed to be preoccupied with food. My senses were fantastic! everything seemed to smelled great problem was I couldn't even think of putting them into my mouth. I have had to learn to sip everything, chew a really long time and remember that I have to eat really small portions. I return to work on 9-6-05 and I'm alittle scared. I've lost 30lbs. and things are fitting better that I really thought would happen. I hope to begin working out by the end of the month and I expect that I'll loss more weight much more quickly.... I would love to chat with someone else going through this and so we can support each other.... Good luck to others going thru this.....it's all worth it!!

Hi Judy, We had our surgery the same day. I'm down between 27-29 pounds. I'm still on pureed food, and protein, and water, water, water......... I try to walk every day, usually we go about an hour, but if I don't have time, at least do 15 minute walks twice a day. I went back to work the week after my surgery, with a no lifting restriction. I got tired the first few nights, but since then, I've done okay. Email me at marsha000 @ lycos.com (without the extra spaces) if you want, we'll compare notes.

Hi! I had the open RNY on 8/2. I'm still on pureed foods though, no chewing yet. Although we went out to dinner and my son got steak and I just had to chew a bite of it, but I was way too scared to swallow it! I was pre-occupied with food for a little while, but then I remembered that this phase of soft stuff is only for a few weeks and then it's all trial and error. How is your energy level? I don't seem to have any. I can walk for about 15 minutes on the treadmill (cuz I can hold the rails). But then I have a bad pain in my abdomen. Anyway, I live in Denver as well. I work for DH. I've lost over 35 lbs so far!!!! Good luck Dawna

Hi Judy, I also had my surgery on 8/11 and have returned to work also on 9/6. I have so far lost 24 lbs and was hoping for more but this is a good start. I have also been preoccupied with food even though I don't feel hungry. I will soon begin working out and hope this changes my focus. An idle mind is truely a danger. A support pal would be great if you are interested.
