Hi Kim, Wow.... 3 more weeks of liquids? I would go nuts! I was only on liquids for about a week.... but if you get SF Carnation instant breakfast made with either low carb milk or with fat free milk is pretty good... ummm... what else? I am not sure, I usually have that for breakfast.... well atleast you have one more idea... Every doctor is different.... I could have eggs at the end of my first week, stayed with soft foods for the second week and I am pretty much eating anything I want now, with in reason of course! but chicken and fish is a big hit.... I hope this helps... Bridget 280/258/140 5'8" RNY 8/8/05

Hi Kim, We had our surgery on the same date. I was advanced the Friday after surgery to soft pureed foods. Cottage cheese is actually one that they really wanted me to have because of the protein. I'm also allowed eggs (limit egg ylks to 3/wk) so I usually have egg beaters. I've also had regular oatmeal. 1 tbs oatmeal, 2 tbs boiling water. This is about 1 ounce, then I take 1 ounce of sf applesauce mix in some cinnamon, heat it up & mix together with the oatmeal. Also sf pudding, the one made with splenda is great. I take almost 2 medicine cups then blend in 1 tsp of natural creamy peanut butter. That'll satisfy the sweet tooth. I can also have mashed potatoes, plantains, winter squash, yams, sweet potatoes, & parsnips (i only like the mashed potatoes)...but I am trying to stay away from this stuff because I want whatever I eat to have protein in it. Canned pears, peaches in lite syrup and rinsed. Bananas, unsweetened fruit juice (4 oz), seedless watermelon, cantaloupe. Pureed cooked veggies such as carrots, peas, green beans, v-8 juice. Ive also had flaked fish, chicken blended w/ mayo & last night i put a roast in the crock pot all day it was very moist & fell apart. I stuck that in my little blended & blended it up with a little juice from the roast & carrots. it was good. Anyway, that's pretty much what I'm allowed. There was a recipe on here for white chili which i made it was awesome. 2 tbs olive oil, 1 can of green chilis, 2 tbs cumin...sautee, 14 oz of chicken broth, 2 cans of great northern beans & shredded cooked chicken. chili powder to taste. simmer for 30 minutes. even good blended up. Good luck

I had the lap. Almost all of my sites have closed up & they all look great. I started to get sore on the left side & the top of my stomach where my pouch is the other day so yesterday I stuck with really pureed food like yogurt & stuff until I had the roast beef pureed up. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not even 3 weeks out yet & to take it easy. No, I'm not real tired during the day, but I'm not back to work yet so I've been sleeping until between 7:30 & 8:30 in the morning. I found a protein drink called extreme smoothie by vht & it has 35 grams of protein in it. It tastes wonderful so I've been trying to drink 1 1/2 to 2 of them a day to keep my protein up. Also there's a yogurt smoothie that's called Carb Freedom by blue bunny there's 13g of protein in it & not berry seeds so you can drink that as well. That's so important for healing. I think yesterday was the first day that I got all my protein & liquids in. I could tell because I had more energy. Make sure you get those in. Good Luck Tam

Im suprised in the differences of allowed diets, im on liquids for 1 month after surgery, am ok so far with it, as i have not had much of appetite. (physically anyway). been lucky so far, no nausea or any prob keeping things in. it was helpful to see some of the diff ideas on this post for protein as im getting tired of those shakes, and they are so expensive..the blue bunny yogurt sounds yummy. last night was strange as i ate 1/2 cup blended soup, 1/2 sf butterscotch pudding, 8 oz protien shake within 3 hours or so and didnt feel uncomfortable, is that strange? now today i dont feel like eating at all. just sipping diluted apple juice.

Kim, Well, I just posted some advice to another message and I will give the same to you. First, let me say, I'm sorry you are on liquids for so long. I was lucky to be able to advance to soft foods at about 11 days post-op. But until you get to soft foods you should try this...go to www.bariatriceating.com. Under the Protein, Portein, Protein section find the item Nectar. Order it - it is a little pricey but the money is worth it. Imagine your new stomach as a baby. You'd want the best for your child, right? Well, give the best to your new stomach, too. And also, for the price, imagine what you're saving in regular groceries. I bet there isn't much difference. Anyway, the 2lb container is about $23 and if you have it shipped 3 day express you will pay a total of about $36 tax, shipping, and all. But again, it is worth it to be able to get what you need. This powder is great. It isn't a thick, milky, chalky drink. It's light and fruity and a good way to get protein and water at the same time. I have the Tea w/Lemon flavor and fix it this way...mix a 20oz bottle of cold water with Crystal Light Raspberry Ice (To-Go pack) then pour 16oz of the Crystal Light into a shaker bottle and mix in the 27g of Nectar. I shake it well and add some ice. This 16oz serving has 23g of protein. If you can drink 3 of those a day you can get 69g of protein. It tastes so good. You really should try it. Everyone at my support group talked about it (when I was pre-op) but I never listened. I wish I had bought it before I went in so I could have had it waiting when I got home from the hospital and was on liquids only. I hope this offers you a suggestion about how to get more protein in an easy and tasteful way. Best wishes, Jessica
