Weight Loss - or the lack there of....
Happy 4 week anny for us Aug. 1st patients. (should always start with a positive, yes? )
Okay folks... am I the only one not happy with the amount of weight I've lost since surgery???? Now I realize I only had 105 pounds to lose vs. some of you have much more so I shouldn't compare my measely 19 lbs in 4 weeks to someone else's 26 in 10 days. But... I lost 18 on my own the month before surgery w/o starving myself or exercising. I lost more than that when I went on WW a few years ago in less time. What gives??? If this weight loss is like a typical diet where you lose more at the beginning and then it slows down, yike!
The only postive note on losing weight this slowly is that it reduces my chances of needing plastic surgery for excess skin. Also, it's a good thing I keep getting smaller even if the scale doesn't agree.
Thanks for letting me vent...
Dawn
My doctor wanted me to lose 106 (altho I think another 10 or 15 beyond that will be where I set my own goal). I have lost 30 lbs as of today. However, I did not do any pre-op diet whatsoever, wasn't required so I went into surgery at my highest weight to date.
I've found on the days I pack in the protein I do better with weight-loss by far. Also, I haven't gotten up to very much excersise yet. Just some walking. If you're excersising you are building muscle - which weighs more than fat.
I wouldn't think you'll slow down too much, because your body was already dieting the month before surgery, so maybe you're just losing on an even level already.
Big Hugs to you!
Dawn,
19 lbs is great. I'm 2 weeks post op today, not quite sure how much I've lost, maybe 12-15 lbs. Got a new scale so I'm not sure how close it is to my Dr's. I will see Wed. when I go for my 1st post op check. I do want to tell you, though, that my sister had her surgery on June 28th & she was at a total stand still for week 3 & 4 post op. I think we lose so fast the first couple weeks, we have to give our bodies a chance to play catch up. Even when she wasn't losing she was losing inches which is very encouraging. Make sure you measure. Check out the June or July board, you'll probably see a few people on there that lost slowly after the first couple weeks, but then it starts to pick up again. Keep your chin up & remember this time the weight is going to come off & stay off.
Good Luck
Tammy
Dawn,
You are not alone. I had surgery on the 5th and up to a big, whopping 15 pounds lost. I do not want to lose as much as some but it is very frustrating. I am attributing it to not getting enough protein in. That has been very difficult for me. I do feel that my clothes are getting looser, so that is a small consolation! Everyone keeps saying to not compare myself to others but that is easier said than done when some people have lost more in a week than I have in 3 1/2 weeks.
Take Care,
Kelli
Kelly!!...my surgery sister!..LOL
I too have only loss 15lbs!...I was so upset when i got on the scale!
Dr told me that I have to up my water...I havent been drinking as much as i should and also to exercise!,...UGH!..lol..So today I rode my stationary bike for 11 minutes and then put on my headphones and danced to 2 songs...LOL
I am 2 weeks behind you-but wanted to share some advice. A woman in my support group told me before the surgery to take my measurements and start a log. She said that when it seems like you are not losing, taking your measurements to see the inches still coming off will help you survive any plateaus or weight loss struggles and so far, I've kept my measurement log up to date, just in case. Maybe the lbs are not dropping, but your waistline still is?
Good luck-it will all balance out soon.
I also had surgery on 8/1. As of today, I am down 21.5 pounds. I also think that is a little slow, but here is the good news. I've lost 21.5 pounds without being hungry, without worrying about whether the weight will come off and without worrying about the next diet I will try when this one fails. I know this one will work and even if I'm a slower loser than others, I can honestly say that I've never been able to lose 21.5 pounds in a month without starving myself and exercising like a maniac. Finally, I feel like I am developing a normal relationship with food and my body and that gives me great peace. Hang in there!
