hi i dont know if this is a good thing since its high in sodium, but ive been going to the chinese rest. and getting bowls off egg drop soup for protein. the eggs are more "slimy" LOL and arent considered "solids". i cant do the protein either. i also have been using "milk of magnisia" for constipation. its working! use it for about 2 or 3 days, you will go in no time. GOOD LUCK! my surgery was aug. 15, and im down 15lbs! kim

Hi Jennifer, I had surgery Aug 10th, I had a difficult time passing anything even gas for the first 3 days. I think everything was just swollen up and closed off, But I kept walking and drinking (sipping constantly) and things finaly got moving. Tons of gas at first, but it passed, lol. Just let it out, no holding back. As for protein shakes I don't like a lot of them either, but I found one I do like, Pro-Rated 100% Whey protein, 22g protein per scoop. I put a scoop per 8 oz crystal light orange drink and it's like having an orange julius minus the ice. For some reason my stomach cramps up when I eat cold things. They make a chocolate flavor too, A scoop of this with Westsoy unsweetened vanilla soy milk and you can cover 31g of protein in an 8 oz serving. I find if I drink very slowly sipping 8 oz for almost 20 min my tummy feels a lot better than if I drink faster.

Jennifer, I had my surgery on the 8/23/05. I don't like the protein shakes either. I ordered a kind called Unjury on the net. It comes in many flavors, but the one I like is the unflavored. I have the shakes mixes the doctor wants me to take and in the morning I have one of his shakes and fortify it with Unjury 20 grams of protien and Hoods Carb Countdown (in the milk dept) 8 grams of protien and with the doctor's shake Pro 100 (15 grams of protien) I start my day with 43 grams of protien. I don't like the shakes so I try to get that part over with. For lunch I have my own homemade chicken broth made with skinless chicken breast with every piece of fat removed. I add a couple of carots and an onion salt and pepper and boil it for hours. I then strain it though a paper coffee filter keep the broth for myself and make chicken salad for my husband with the chicken. I add one scoop of the Unjury 20 grams of protien plus whatever the broth contributes. For supper I have either a loaded shake or loaded broth with the unjury. That gives me at least 80 grams of protien. I find the blender great for mixing the shakes. Sometimes I add a little almond extract flavoring. I do get up and walk often. It really helps with the gas. I hope this gives you some ideas. By the way, I live in Lillian and my doctor is Dr. Altar from Pace.

I can't handle the milk based protein shakes either. My doctor suggested Isopure, and I have had no problems with that. It comes in many different flavors, but I suggest Alpine Punch, and Mango Peach. It has 40 grams of protein in a 20 oz bottle. Good Luck Tina

Hey Jennifer, you probably don't have to use the bathroom, but instead it might be excess gas. Try walking a bunch to get rid of it. Also, to make your protein shake taste better, try adding sugar free pudding powder to it. I use Vitalady.com Pure whey protein stack drinks like chocolate (I add chocolate pudding, only a little so it's not think). I also like their banana scream (so I add banana pudding mix) this makes them taste great and covers up that chalky after taste. Hope this helps. -Lynn LAp RNY 8-16-05 297/280/150
