How much can you eat?
I know this question has been asked so many times on this website but I am worried that I am eating too much. I had my surgery on 8/02/05. I am not really sure if I understand how to measure food for my pouch. Right now I can drink an 11 fluid oz atkins shake no problem. Also I can eat about 1/2 cup of pureed chicken salad. And I do kind of notice a feeling of fullness right before the last bite. When someone says 2oz of chicken is that weight or fluid oz? I'm so confused.
Miss KJ I can totally relate to you.....
Im on mushy food right now and there is certain mushy food...like mashed potatoes, pea soup & ricotta cheese that I can have 4-5oz of!! I know it's not the 100oz i use to eat..LOL...but it just seems lik its too much....I did notice that when i eat something more solid it is a little harder to eat.
Also when i eat mushy stuff it goes down sooo fast. When i eat SF pudding it takes me like 5 minutes to eat..if that!....I sure dont want to be a failure at this but i dont know if this is normal or not.
I have an appt with my surgeon tomorrow and Im kinda embarrassed to tell him this...Almost like i feel like a failure.....when i was 13 days post op I went to a Nutritionist post op class and afterwards i asked if i could weigh myself...so my first weigh in i lost 15 pounds...now tomorrow is the weigh in that counts and i feel this weird feeling like i may have gained!! Its scares the hell outta me!
Gues I will see tomorrow...

I can eat 1 1/2 oz per meal. However, I am on stage 3 and am allowed soft foods. I eat cottage cheese, string cheese, baked or grilled chicken with fat free gravy to keep it moist, etc. I have trouble eating any breakfast whatsoever, but other than that I can get my food in. I measure all my food in 1 oz cups the hospital gave me. It may be you eat more since it's pureed. It goes through faster. As long as you're doing what your surgeon/nut told you to do, you're fine.
I'm so glad you asked this question... I'm almost 2 weeks out, on liquids and had the SAME question!
I have heard from so many people that it is hell to try to get down all your protiene shakes and liquids and I have no problems at all. i don't gulp, but in drinking normally I'm not having to "sip forever" to finish a drink.
Also eating, I don't feel hungry nor full for that matter and was wondering if something was wrong with me lol.
I do so miss the emotional satisfaction of eating something crunchy and actually chewing though ARGGGGGGGGG
I've been able to drink my protein shakes completely since day 4, and most of my water in a given day as well. Yesterday was my first attempt at "food", I found I could eat my entire 4 oz. of fat-free cottage cheese. But, on the other hand, I could only handle 2 oz of egg flower soup at a time.....go figure.......
