Length of hospital stay?
Hi!
I had my surgery on monday, stayed all day monday, Tuesday evening I was given the Okay to go home but I opted for one more night... (I have 3 flights of stairs to climb to get to my apartment) just to take it easy... I did have a drainage tube while I was in the hospital, but it was removed Tuesday evening.
Hope this helps!

I got out of surgery Monday morning about 9am and left wednesday about noon. I had the swallow test to check for leaks and a drain. They both gave me peace of mind. The drain tube was removed Wed. about 11 am. it really did not bother me and I was glad all of the liquids were draining out of me.
Good Luck with your surgery

I had my surgery on Monday morning and as per my doctor, stayed in until Friday. They did the leak test and an mri on Tuesday. My surgeon likes to keep his patients in the hosp for 3-4 days depending on how each individual patient is doing; in my case, I had such terrible gas pains that we agreed on an extra night. My surgeon removed my drain tube on Friday morning and I was out of the hosp by noon.
Check with your surgeon and ask him/her about the leak test and hospital stay. Ultimately, your surgeon is the one that gives you the okay to go home or not.
Good luck to you and god bless!

I had the LapBand so my hospital stay isn't really relevant to your situation, but I wanted to reassure you about the swallow test.
It was no big deal at all. In fact I kind of liked it!
After the surgery I was really really REALLY dry and wanted something to drink but knew I couldn't have it. I kept going to the bathroom and rinsing my mouth out with water and spitting it out just to get my mouth not to feel so gross. When they took me to radiololgy to have the barium swallow and x-ray I was really nervous because I'd heard terrible things abotu it too. I don't know what was in that drink they gave me, but I swear it tasted like a really thin vanilla milkshake, and it was such a RELIEF to be able to swallow some liquid and have it run down my throat. They had me drink maybe ten mouthfuls and that was it. After they got the x-rays I was able to go back to recovery and get some real water and get ready to go home. It was also really comforting to see the x-ray and know that it was all working ok.
Try to be positive, who knows you could have a good experience with it like I did!

I had surgery on Friday, and the doc told me that I could go home on Satruday, if I wanted to. I was going to, but then the gas pains became unbearable, so I opted to stay. And that was because they could get me up every couple hours to walk. I knew if I was at home, I would have slept thru the night, and not moved. I did what I thought was best for me.
