Amy, How much are you drinking? You may need to cut down the amount you drink at any given time. MaryLyn

I am 10 days post op. What type of shakes are you drinking? If you are mixing them with milk that might be your problem. What % of milk are you using? There are some protein drinks that you can buy that dont have milk in them like protein boost. Also try crystal light or flavored drinks insted of plain water to give it taste. Feel free to E-Mail me.

I didn't use any "prepared" protein shakes, I started with fat-free skim milk and protein powder. The first few days I kept them pretty thin, but have slowly thickened them up. 4 of the past 5 days, I finally hit goal on protein and kept it there. I'm on thin liquids until next Wednesday, then I'm allowed to increase to soft eggs, pudding, etc.

Hi Amy, I am 11 days post op. I have found that EAS Advant Edge Carb Control was easier on the tummy. (15 g protein/11 fl oz) They were on sale at Kroger's - buy a 4 pack, get one free. It taste like a liquid milkshake. For any protein drink, do not start drinking them cold. If you must refrigerate it to cool it a little... let it sit at room temp before taking a sip. May sure to sip slowly at intervals. Feel free to e-mail me. p.s- Another protein drink is ISOPURE zero carb (found at GNC) It is not made with milk at all...it reminds me of Sobe drinks. They have various flavors. (40 g protein/ 20 fl oz)

Sip don't gulp or swallow too much all at once. Make sure you are using skim milk if you use milk with your shakes, or you can make them with water.

I'm 8 days post op (open RnY) and I've actually been having fun sampling protiene shakes I odered from vitalady.com I'm in love with one called champion pro stack chocolate. Mixes with water, and I'd swear it was like a chocolate shake (w/ ice) or chocolate milk. I haven't had any issues with upset tummy with my protiene eaither. As for water, I too can drink alot more than I though I could lol. But no complaints here... I'm probably better hydrated right now than I have ever been in my life lol. And that's the eplaination I got as well (water can pass quickly, not other liquids that are more dense) Hope this helps Tamela

I find it takes me an hour or more to drink a protien shake, don't try to drink too fast. You may be getting air in there as well.

Amy, I had my surgery 5 days ago also. I think part of the problem is we are still learning what "full" feels like. Don't try to drink the water and the shakes at the same time. Stop when you feel the least bit full and come back to it. If you shake your protein, let the bubbles go down or scoop some of them off cuz they made me sick too. I found if I mixed Crystal Light w/ vanilla Pro Complex (27.5 grams in 4 oz liquid) I could drink that. JH mentioned EAS but that is a lot of liquid (11 oz) for not that many grams (18) and I can't get that much down either. Anyway, hang in there! We can all do this!

Lori, I had RNY surgery on the 15th and I'm having the same problem with the protein. I've been blending the shakes in my Bullet and then drinking the froth. I didn't think of that making me sic****il you mentioned it. I tried a shake tonight with 35 grams of protein. Unable to get it down , it made me feel . What flavor Crystal Light did you use with the vanills Pro Complex? *******************************Rita
