10 days b4 surgery and i'm sick
Hey fellow-August buddies. One of my children has been having strep throat several times this month. Nothing the Dr. gives her seems to clear it up. Since I had my tonsils out when I was 30, I thought it would be safe for me to drink after her. I was making sure I didn't allow she and my other children to share drinks. Well, my throat started hurting a few days ago and I went to the Dr. (PCP) this morning to make sure I didn't have strep and he said that it looks like I have it. He said that even without tonsils people can still get strep throat (I guess that's why they don't call it strep tonsils). Ayhoo......he put me on antibiotics and said it should be cleared up before the 22nd. Did anyone else run into this prior to their surgery? My surgeon advised no tylenol, aspirin or other over the counter meds two weeks prior to sugery. I'm going in for my pre-op on Tuesday, so I'll verify with them then, but thought I'd poll this group to see if anyone had experienced this and if their surgery date was postponed or not.
Any advice anyone can give would be much appreciated.
thanks
RaeAnn
My surgery date is Aug 29th. I got a packet about the beginning of this month and they said that if I get sick between now and my surgery to call them and let them know so they can reschedual. I also know that they dont want me taking alot of things including birthcontrol... which I am on the shot (DEPO).. but I am pass due 2 months... good thing my hubby is overseas... lol anyways thats what my surgeon told me.
I know that doesnt help, but hey get better . good luck

Hey,
My date is on 08/18 and what do you know, I get a heck of an ear infection so bad I had to be referred to ENT. I started taking antibiotics on 08/01 and I also took Tylenol for the pain. My surgeon said that Tylenol was the ONLY medicine I could take prior to surgery, just not the day before or the day of. Well I prayed about it, took my meds and I'm okay. With all that said, continue to take your meds and talk w/ your doc about the Tylenol (it really helps w/ the pain) and we'll all pray for you for a speedy recovery and no change of surgery date.
My surgery is scheduled for Wed and I will be taking my last pill from my antibiotics (the Z pack) on Tuesday morning. Nothing like cutting it close! I cam down with a horrible cough about a week ago. My surgeon says we will wait til Wed to see if we will need to reschedule, but my PCP thinks it should be cleared up by then!
Good luck to you! Just do exactly what doc instructs!
WOO HOO!!!!!! My surgeon said that my surgery date will not have to be pushed back because of the antibiotics!!!!
Thank you to everyone that responded with their experiences. I'm not happy that others are not feeling well prior to surgery, but it's always nice to know that there are others going through the same thing.
I hope all of us on antibiotics start feeling better soon so that recovery won't be as hard after sugery.
See yall on the losing side!!!!
