Hey everyone! I just wondered how everyone was doing? I have one week left, (less than that now), and well....I was wondering how recovery times/pain went for those of you have had yours already? I'm hoping to be up and going again a week and a half out....am i dreaming and horribly unrealistic? Sara

Hi Sara, I had surgery the 1st and I've been out and about since I got home. I didn't drive for the first week, mainly because a walk around the mall made me as tired as running a marathon, and then I was having major issues dealing with blood pressure on days 7 & 8 post-op. You'll find that the first week you'll go out, do your walk, maybe take a shower and then be ready for a nap. Even today, I went and got my hair done, stopped at 4 stores and came home and took a 2 hour nap after eating lunch. If you are having lap RNY you will probably be able to go back to work (assuming you are not doing a heavy physical job) at 2 weeks. You'll be ready for a nap when you get home, but you'll be fine. Good luck. Dawn

I had it done on 8/5- I go back to get my staples out on 8/18. It went much better than I expected. It is hard to be on the no liquids after surgery, because your mouth gets dry and my throat hurt. I had some pain- but the nurse always asked me how I was on a 1-10 scale. I only had pain meds when needed. I was sore, but it subsided some each day. I stayed overnight and had a 4 hour drive home from the hospital. I was really drowsy, and took it easy. I think a positive attitude going in helped, but I was kind of scared. It will be a week tomorrow, and I feel much better. I am glad I didin't have to go back to work, though. I am fortunate I can take as much time as I need to recoop. Good luck!! It will be worth it.

Hey Sara, The pain issue is different for everyone I guess, I am a person who has no tolerance to pain, but I think I did quite well. The first night I had quite a bit of pain but I had a morphine pump and used it often. I didn't wait til the pain got really bad to use it. The day after surgery was better. I went home the next day and used the pain meds prescribed by the surgeon. Yes, walking and even showering are tiring at first. I feel I could go back to work now, but I'm not rushing things. I see the surgeon on Aug 22, and will likely go back to work Aug 29. Since I have a stressful and demanding job I may ask to go back part time for a couple of weeks, as this is our busiest time of year. You will do great. Take care Joyce
