I'm a little concerned...
I just had my surgery on Aug 5th, came home on Sunday afternoon. Today was my first full day home...
This is what I consumed:
630am-2oz of protein drink
745am-2oz Biomega liquid vitamins(it kinda tastes like a fruit drink)
930am-2oz of beef broth
between 1100am and 245pm i wasnt feeling so well..i felt really full and it felt like it was in my chest...very uncomfortable
300pm-3oz sf jello
515pm-1oz of beef broth
600pm-i had a couple of sips (barely an oz) of carnation instant breakfast drink
900pm 3oz of sf jello
Throughout the whole day I also sipped on water..I would say I drank about 24oz-30oz.
I am having a bit of cramping in my stomach...kinda like alot of gurgling...Im in no pain....I walked around the house as well today to get my exercise...
I would really like it if someone that is POST OP could let me know if this is ALL normal?
I was thinking that maybe I am not eating slow enough and that is why i have all the gurgling and gas--both burps & farts....
I am peeing and I did have one watery bowel movement...Im assumming that is normal though.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Hi Tanya,
I am 7 days post op, my surgery was on August 2nd. I have not had the full feeling in my chest that you described. BUT I have read about it on the Q and A section of this website. Others have described it as being too full also. Regarding the gas, gurgling, burping... I have the same symptoms. I asked my surgeon's nurse yesterday and she said it was normal. From our new stomach down to our bowels is a new 'path' and it will take time for it work smoothly, so gas and noise is normal... Be happy it is working I validate your feelings, it is strange to me to have these weird noises coming from me during the day but I am getting used to it. Do you have a gastric bypass nutrition guide from your doctor for reference? My doctor wants us to have 4 ounces in an hour but you can work your way up to it... as long as you are feeling well and getting 48 to 60 ounces of fluid a day, I believe that is good but check with your nutritionist too. WOW! If I had eaten that much I wouldn't have felt well either. My 1st week post-op consisted of only clear broths and sugar free jello - of which I never finished my jello (would take me almost 2 days to finish a 1/2 cup) and until day 6 I didn't finish my 1/2 cup of broth in one sitting. (I only get 3 meals a day) I was also only allowed to drink 32-40 oz of water a day, which I didn't get up to until day 4 post-op. In the hospital I finished all 32 oz by about 5 pm and I spent the entire day feeling like I had just eaten a 2 plate, plus dessert, Thanksgiving dinner. My guess is you are eating too quickly and not listening to your pouch telling you when its full. Remember, you never, ever, again have to finish your food. When you're full, stop. And yes, unfortunately, the noise and gas is most definitely normal, especially the 1st week post-op as you process out the air the surgeon pumped into your stomach and intestine to help him/her do the surgery. I had my surgery on the 1st and it's getting easier to know when I'm full, the gas and gurgling is much, much reduced. Just make it a little longer and you'll start feeling a little more normal.
