12 Days POST OP and down 25 lbs...
Had Open RNY on July 28th... Doing extremely well.. I have been walking since they took me off the recovery cart in my room. I walk 20- 30 minutes a day. Started walking to the corner- then the next- then eventually around the block... Each day gets better. I found that when I went to sit up and down or to move in bed it hurt a lOT... Then I discovered if you BLOW/Breath OUT on the forward movements.. IT helped and was not as uncomfortable.. Wanted to share that with anyone else post op... GOD BLESS All... We will all be losers together...
Hi PattinAnn,
That is great progress. I had my surgery (lap rny) on August 5th. I actually gained weight in hospital from all the fluids they gave me during surgery they said. I have no weighed since I have been home do not want to get freaked out. I was wondering if you started losing immediately? Keep up the good work and I will be a loser with you soon I hope!

I could not stop peeing in the hospital... The fluids they gave.. I cannot say I had much but ice chips in hosp... Came home had clear fluid for two days- then fluids with a little protein powder, then purreed and now on soft foods.. I did not weigh myself the first 5 days- was bloated and uncomfortable... You will be so suprized. I also walked daily one corner- 2 corners- then eventually around the block.. GOod luck...I am sure it will melt right off... the first few days are the roughest.
Hey Kelli,
I sure understand the weight gain from the fluids. Monday, I went in weighing 240, came home on Wednesday weighing 252! By Monday I was at 231. (It probably helped that I took my blood pressure meds Thurs - Sat (don't need them at the moment - YEAH) and they contain a diaretic) So, yes you start losing right away. Good luck and here's to lighter selves!
