I am scheduled for my surgery August 29 but BCBSD STILL hasn't approved my surgery. They have said they would approve me as long as... You fill in the blanks - everytime my surgeon's office sends them what they ask for they ask for something else. First it was cardio clearance. They got that and then wanted my sleep study. They got that and then wanted my pulmonary clearance. They got that and then wanted a letter of clearance from the Anesthesiologist. They got that Tuesday, and that was the last we heard. Anybody else have this situation? Just over three weeks to my surgery, and I'm starting to panic!!! I'm recently retired and don't want to have to pay for this surgery out of pocket - but if that is what it takes, I'll do it! I am determined to have my surgery! Read on the board today about the young man who died, and that has me really scared now. Anybody else having the heebie jeebies??

I had that same problem only with BCBS of Wisconsin. However, I didn't schedule my surgery until after I actually had received their approval. Good luck! Nancy E.

My surgeon works backwards - you get your surgery date at the consultation visit and then have to get insurance approval and all required testing done before then. I had everything done in plenty of time, but the surgeon's office wanted to wait to submit for my authorization until closer to time. I was real scared. But they sent back authorization in 4 days, and I found that out just a week before my surgery! I did read about the young man that passed away, and it is so sad. Just think about all of us that made it though, there's a lot more of us that came out with no problems. It's hard not to get scared, but try to look at your surgeon's statistics and make the best decision for you.
