HELP!! Pre-op Bowel Prep ??

Any input on this will be greatly appreciated... My surgeon didn't order me on a liquid diet pre-op because when we met earlier this week, I had lost 8 lbs since our first meeting. He actually didn't ask me to do anything special, except NOT to eat or drink anything after midnight on Sunday. BUT...I keep wondering...should I do maybe a FLEET prep on Sunday? I just want to make sure I am pretty clean when I go in Monday. Sometimes I feel I should do one of those, kind of to cleanse myself...it may be a good time to do it now... Any suggestions? Thank you, Dolly 2+ days to go (have to report to Hosp at 6 am Monday)

Mine doesn't have me doing anything special except on the day before surgery. My doctor has me on a light breakfast (1 egg, white toast (dry), Enfamil) then clear liquids the rest of the day and nothing by mouth afer midnight. Also, Fleets Phosho Soda at noon and 6:00. Evidently, that cleans you out enough to suite him. Ken

I will have to do a bowel prep the day before surgery, but my surgeon requires it. I would call your surgeon to make sure someone didn't forget to tell you. If they don't require it, don't worry. It may be that they give you an enema when you get there day of surgery.

Mine requires a 2 day bowel prep, clear liquids for 2 days prior and mag citrate to clean me out the night before. You might want to try checking the profiles of people who used the same doc to see if anyone posted in their journal about it. Our month is almost here! Best of luck on MOnday...

My big day is August 1st also! My doctor told us (there were 5 in my pre-op group) that we don't have to do a bowel prep or any special dieting, just not to eat real heavy the day before surgery and no food or liquid after midnight before surgery. I've also wondered if I should take anything tomorrow to 'cleanse' my system, but I think eating light (lots of liquids, fruits, etc) will help so I'm not going to take anything to cleanse. If I needed to, he would have had me do it.

The enema is used to clean out your lower colon, the surgery will deal strictly with your upper or small intestine. If you dont eat or drink the night before your stomach and small intestine will be empty. But if you feel brtter taking an enema it wont hurt.

Hi Dolly, I am also having the same procedure on the same day. I have to report at 9, my surgery was pushed up to 11 from 1. May we all have uneventful surgeries. My surgen also did not ask for a bowl prep, but I intend to do the ducolex tablets. I have them left over from my colonoscopy. It's just my feelings. I don't want to have to have a BM in the hospital while the cathiter is in. We will become PHAT instead of FAT! This is the place to be where losing is winning! Keep in touch and we will compare notes and celebrate our re-birth together. ~Rebel Lady~
