I got my date last week for Aug. 31 and am kind of scared now it seems so close. How long should I figure on being out of commission after surgery? How long was anyone down for after their surgery? my son's birthday is only a couple of days after surgery and I have always made his cake and done a party. Am I going to be able to do the same things, I do tend to bounce(no pun intended) back after surgery. I had my gall bladder out in '95, Laproscopicly. Also, I feel like I am clueless in what I am going to be able to eat after the surgery. Can anyone help me ?

Letitia, Congratulations on your date! Everyone heals differently so I can't answer that question. I do know that recovery is key to your overall success. Don't try to do too much until you get the green light from your surgeon. How old is your son? If he is older, there is no time like the present for him to learn that sometimes things come up and birthday parties need to get postponned. Perhaps you can do something small, with just family (less work for you) and then when you're feeling better do the big party thing. As far as being clueless, I can completely identify with that! I've been researching this surgery for so long, my brain is completely empty. I,too, feel clueless. It will come back. The nursing staff won't release after surgery without going over some guidellines. Relax. It will be taken care of. Hope I've been able to help. Cheers, Becca
