Concerns :help:

I have an August 1st surgical date and as the time gets closer I am getting nervous because I have a couple of concerns. I suffer from terrible back pain when I lay on my back. Although I know I will be given pain meds I'm worried that I will still be in pain. If I lay on my back for any length of time, I can't stand up until I've been sitting up for a while. I had a vena cava filter put in last week and they gave me 3 doses of morphine for the back pain. It barely made a dent in the pain. My other concern goes along with the first one. I'm worried that I won't be able to do the walking I'll need to do because right now I can barely walk anyway, due to the back pain. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been in this situation. Can anyone tell me anything to make me not have to be worried about this? I have enough to be nervous about having never had surgery before. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I have a date 8-2-05 and I have osteoarthritis and I take different meds for the pain. If your doctor is aware of your situation, there should be no problem getting the pain regement that you will need. Use pillows to prop yourself towards one side or the other, thay may help. You will do fine, if all else fails, just pray for strength and mercy, it helps. Keep telling yourself that you will be fine. I hope this has helped

Patty, I too have lower back issues. I also have to wait to stand up after laying for awhile. I am going to make sure that I utilize the nursing staff while in the hospital. As them for help. Ask to be repositioned every two hours or so. Hang in there, Lynne
