Aug 1 here and no clue what to pack
Ok family, I know this has been asked, replied to, and posted many times, however, I can't find any of the posts so here it goes...
What should I pack for the hospital?
Post-op Shopping List for the first 1-2 weeks back home from hospital?
Please either direct me to previous posts about this or post here
Thank you!
Dolly
Here's what I post to your question way back...
OK, Call me a geek. I'm bringing my laptop. It can sit on the tray table. Then I can throw on my headphones and watch DVDs or listen to music as I please. Also play solitare, etc. Hey, there won't be much more than ice chips on the table anyway.
My wife had the procedure last January. Here's the items we had or picked up for her that worked:
...Slippers (cold, yucky hospital floors)
...Robe (So you won't moon the other patients during the walks)
...Tongs (To reach where no one has reached before)
...Favorite pillow (Something about the scent of home)
...Pictures of the kids (No explanation needed)
...Lemon Glycerine Swabs (Replaces mouth wash, the hospital
....................................provides them, but it often takes a
....................................while for them to get them to you.)
...Oral-B Brush-Ups (Instead of tooth brush and tooth paste)
...CPAP (if you use one)
...Loose underwear (The loosest you own for the trip home.
............................Any abdominal pressure hurts after a few
............................minutes in the first few days post op.
............................Including waist bands! )
...Cell phone (We have little kids [5 & 3], they need to know
...................they can talk to mommy or daddy as needed.)
Hope this list helps everyone.

hi,
One thing no else mentioned was some chapstick or lip balm. We won't be having anything by mouth the first day, at least i won't. The IV's will keep you hydrated but your lips will feel better with something on them. Also, i don't have a lap top but i am taking a portable CD player with headsets. If you have one of those CD's of babbling brook or whatever, it can cover up the noise of hospital and help you to sleep.
As far as Post op shopping list, i have to be on clear liquids the first week post op. This is the list they gave me.
Crystal lite
sugar-free popsicle
sugar-free jello
Decaffinated tea
Buillion/broth
sugar-free sorbet
Isopure (clear liquid protein sold at GNC)
hope this helps,
nancy
