Cindy
Hi Cindy -
I am also waiting for my WLS date to come up. Mine is scheduled for Monday morning August 1, 2005 in Charlotte N.C.! I have to be in Charlotte at 5:15 A.M. I'm fine with that time but my mother would really like to sleep in! If she had her way about it I wouldn't need to be there until about 2 P.M., but she knows how anxious I am about the whole process so I guess she will sacrafice a few lovely hours of sleep to help her oldest daughter in her fight against obesity! I have a really supportive family which is wonderful! I have lived with my parents for the last 5 years or so, ever since I got approved for disability. I had been on my own for 18 years prior to this. My sisters (both younger than I) and my youngest nephew live just across the lawn from us and they are wonderful. My nephew is 15, going on 25 and is looking forward to helping me out while I recover at home after the surgery. I work at the YMCA nearby which has been a blessing! All employees get a free membership and I have reciently been taking advantage of that! I have been going to work 1 1/2 hours early each morning and swimming for about 30 min. I have done this 5 days per week for the last 4 weeks and am determined to reach my goal of 6 weeks of exercise, 5 days per wee****il my surgery. I started as soon as I had a date of August 1 for my surgery. It's great to be able to work out and then not have to plan drive time to get to my job, I just walk up to the front desk and go to work. I plan on working out as much as I can as soon as the doc gives me the O.K. I start my liquid diet tomorrow bright and early. My doctor requires a 2 week liquid prior to surgery. I had a hard time finding a proteen powder that was drinkable but at GNC I was able to sample a product called "Maximum Protien". It really is pretty good. It comes in Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry. They were out of the Vanilla so the got the other 2 flavors. I have tried something called "Necter" that my surgeons office had sample packets of, I hated it so much I couldn't even bring myself to try the other 7 or 8 flavors that I had samples of. Check out GNC for a sample taste if you can, it really helped me. I never would have bought this stuff without sampling it. It cost about $50 per can, but has 60 servings per can. In my area they are running a special - buy one get another for 1/2 price. Write back if you would like any more info from N.C., I have been working on the process since January and have learned so much more than I thought was possible to learn about WLS - Your friend in "Weight Loss", Kathy
I tried one from GNC called body milk and like you I tried the one from my docs office and it tasted like vanilla cardboard I have to do the liquid protein diet for 2 weeks also in order to shrink the liver for surgery I found my favorite one at good ole Walmart it is premium whey protein by body fortress in the pharmacy section it is a 2 lb container 30-32 servings for 11.96 it only comes in choc and vanilla but I think when mixed with skim milk it tastes really good let me know how you are doing on yours I start mine on tuesday so i will be thinkin about ya and post on tuesday when I am going crazy for food lol
Cindy we can do this
hey Cindy -
Don't worry about so many things in advance -number one - take care of you . Number 2 - check the protein content in your drink. If you have a VItamin Shoppe near you- you can contact them- they are experts and can tell you what is the best of/ best tasting etc whey protein- and they know what WLS patients use. The reason I point this out- is- 50grms of protein is needed post surgery- the more you take in - and if you can do any exercise
before surgery- the better your outcome- so keep that in mind- also
when it comes to weight loss- KEEP this in mind- this is for EVERYONE-
ALL WEIGHT LOSS IS NOT THE SAME. read that again! the person who just loses "weight" say 20 lbs - will lose fat+ muscle, even if you are drinking protein shakes. The person who EXERCISES, will lose 20lbs too- but it will be 100% of FAT - which lowers your BMI. Also- if you have light hand weights- 3lbs-to start- and begin doing simple reps- this will help to ACCELERATE your weight LOSS! I KNOW THIS from personal experience and I know this from wirking out with a trainer. Oh and here is SOMETHING ELSE I have uncovered TO BE TRUE: you can have one skinny person at 150 & one person who exercises at say 295. Who is healthier? The Person who exercises- regardless how much they weigh!
So you hang in there and chill.
Work on being the best you can be - Pre OP- cause that will give you the best recovery post op.
Now put on those dancin shoes !
Hugs, Donna
