I had surgery on August 26th of 2005 and I have only lost 84 pounds and my height is 5'5. Am I eating too much? Shouldnt I have been at 100 pounds already? I have decided to up my water and get back on my protein. I want to loose about 30 or 40 more pounds. My surgeon says that I am doing great and I promised myself that I wouldnt fail at this but I feel like I have. I guess I just need some advice. Thanks guys.

Ashley - Sounds like the only thing you're doing wrong is comparing yourself to others. It's hard, I know, especially when you read of other success stories, but yours is! For your health if nothing else, make sure you get tha****er and protein in - the rest will take care of itself. As long as your surgeon says you're doing well and you're healthy and feeling better, I'd say that's a success!!! You don't say what your starting weight is, but from what I'm reading, the bigger you are, the quicker you lose initially. Don't fret - you've done wonderfully. Just do what you need to do and please don't beat yourself up. Easier said than done, I know! Hang in there, Teresa

Hi Ashley, Like you, I am a slow loser. I am now down 96.5 pounds, however I thought I would have been down 110 or more by now myself. I have just had to get to the place of knowing that we are all different on this journey and some loose faster and some loose slower. Don't fret or worry about it...I wish my surgeon was like yours. He's been a real horse arse to me at times and my last visit told me that most doctors would say I was a success as I've lost appr. 50% of my weight, but he doesn't consider me a success. That was kinda of the last straw. I've decided that I don't need his approval and that my journey is my own and as I continue to keep on track (getin my protein, water and exercise) there isn't anything wrong with how I am loosing. So, be thankful you have a great surgeon who is supportive of you and that your going to continue to be successful. This life of new health and thinner looks is just the beginning of our successes. Here's to our journeys!! Lori 293/196.5/135

Some drs are arses. It's great to hear you consider yourself as a success. I think failure is only possible if we don't learn from this experience. If we don't change what got us to the surgery in the first place. Torrey (281/185/160)

Ashley, No way are you doing bad... 84 lbs is awesome. Everyone, on here is losing at different rates.... Upping the water & protein is a great idea, not to mention, it's soooo healthy for you. Let us know how you do. Your surgeon is happy with your success, you should be too... Celebrate girl...you deserve it... Tammy

Hi Ashley, My DH and I both had our surgeries in August 2005, his on the 3rd and mine on the 26th. He did get down 58 pounds, and I got down 85 pounds so far. He has not lost any weight in the last 4 months, and I think that I am at a stall. We feel that we would like to lose more weight. I still need to lose close to 100 pounds, and he wants to lose about 40-60 pounds. We will see our doc next week for the 1 year check up. You are not alone. I know I feel like a brand new person now and I am so happy about that. Merlon
