Has Anyone Swallowed Gum????

Ok, kinda freaking out. I've chewed gum since shortly after surgery. I know, in the beginning, it's really a no no because of the risk of swallowing it & it getting stuck blocking the exit passage of your pouch. Tonight it happened. I just put gum in my mouth, went into the school for my daughters induction ceremony, went to say something to my husband & BAM....it slid right down... I freaked. Buzzed to the bathroom & tried to throw it up, but it wasn't coming. I've had some liquids & a calcium chew & nothing feels stuck so I'm hoping that it slid right through & it's on it's way out.... Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has had this happen & if so....what happened. Thanks for the input Tammy

Good gosh girl!! I will be watching the post to see how to handle that one!! I chew at times as well and think about swallowing the stuff to!!! Probaly like you said went on out !!!LOL Be careful!!!!!!! LOL sheree

I know.....thought it wouldn't happen to me per the normal....but it did... I feel fine today.... But will stay alert to any changes. Tammy

My dumb butt has swallowed gum twice since surgery. Once I was chewing, started to speak and choked and it went down. The second time I threw a couple peanuts in my mouth WHILE chewing gum (DUH!) and swallowed the gum. Neither time did it get stuck or anything. I did drink a lot of water afterwards to help flu**** thru. Hope you don't experience any problems Tammy! Hugs, Connie

Tammy- Yes, I had this happen fairly early out. I chewed gum from the beginning and didn't really worry about it...I hadn't swallowed gum in years...what would make me swallow gum as an adult???? Well, I was chewing gum and went to say something to my husband (just like you) and down it went....I worried myself sick all evening and over night...but nothing happened and I was fine...and I still chew gum every day...I think sugar free gum keeps me from wanting to eat so much. Hey Tammy, I was never much of a gum chewer, but since surgery I have not had one piece of gum because I am scared I may swallow it. My friends laugh at me and say "why would you swallow it"? Be careful girl lol Take care Joyce
