BIG Appetite!

OH MY GOD! Why is it that I want to eat all the time now? It seems like I am hungry every 1-2 hours. I get all my protien and water, so I don't know what's going on, other than stress. This has been going on for about two months though. I feel like I am well on my way to being a WLS failure if I don't change my habits. I finally called my surgeon today and asked if I could take something to curb my appetite. All I got was "You don't need to do that.", with no real reason for me not to do so. Does anyone else know why? I have an appointment this Thursday, so maybe that will help. Clarissa 346/217/150

Clarissa! I soooo know what you are talking about! I have been ravenous the past two months! But... for the last week or so, it seems to have tapered off. I am wondering if this is just our bodies getting more used to eating or something. But I totally feel your pain! I have been eating alot of watermelon and cantelope. It's mostly water so it is easy to eat alot. It adds up on the calories but the way I see it, I didn't get fat on fruit! Good luck to you sweetie! Lori

Yeah, I do like you on the watermelon and I like salad too, but I just noticed how many calories regular salad dressing has. I still hate fat free salad dressing anyway. But yeah, when you eat alot of something like melon, lettuce, or popcorn, you feel like you've done something. LOL Thanks for the reply Clarissa

Hi Clarissa, I way understand the munchies. I started in Feb. when I was sick for a month and it really hasn't stopped, though I got sick again yesterday and this time I'm not eating my way through it, so I hope maybe I'm going to be able to slow down. As far as fat free dressing - I HATE it, but, Just2Good is actually not bad. Dawn 258/131/135

I'm in the same boat. I was awful this weekend. I've up my water intake and increased my protien. Still, I seem to always be checking what time my next meal is. I guess this is when it starts getting really hard. Not that it was ever easy, but I still have weight to loose. Torrey (281/193/160)

Yes, I know what you mean about checking to see what time your next meal is. I think it's just part of the journey... look at all the people that replied to the post, but atleast we aren't alone! I still have about 60-65 more pounds I want to lose and I wonder if I will ever make it! Your new pic looks great Good luck! Clarissa

Clarissa, I think, at this stage of our journey, everyone is going to start getting the urge to snack, binge or eat the wrong things. I know that I've had urges to snack on something when I'm not hungry....THOSE EVIL OLD HABITS ....... But, that's when it's really important to stop & ask yourself if you are truly hungry or is it because you're stressed, bored, happy...etc etc... (all those emotions that make us eat).... You may want to write things down, or when you get the urges to try to see if there's a trend. Another good tool is to tell yourself to wait 15-30 minutes before you grab something and during that time have a protein drink or water or something like that. If after that time, you still feel like munching, try some cheese or fruit or something. Make that snack count. I know it's hard...I've fallen to temptation...believe me....I know where you're at. Thanks for posting this. It's so important that we all try to stay accountable to each other.... ((((HUGS)))) Tammy 291/284/189.5/145

Tammy - I saw my nutritionist today and she recommended a food diary, like you did. I have tried this before, but she is going to work with me. I will mail it to her every two weeks, she will review it, then call me back. I think that having a professional "critique" my diet will help me stay on track more! I was snacking on alot of bad things (like chips and cookies!). I even accidentally ate 26 grams of sugar a few days ago and didn't get sick. I guess I should consider myself lucky, my surgeon has told me I've had one of the best successes he's seen, but I feel like that if things did make me sick I wouldn't have fallen into my old habits. Oh well, I got a kick in the butt, and that's what I needed! I will join your exercise post!! Thanks! Clarissa

Hey Surgery Sister, I am hungry all the time also. I asked the doctor how much should I be eating and she just said to eat healthy stuff, exercise like crazy and drink all the water 64 oz and get in 60 grams of protien first. She told me if I do that dont worry about being hungry and don't count calories or anything like that. That is why I was at the gym at 5 am. I am going to really start to workout hard cause I know I will eat if I can. I notice on weekends I forget to eat though for me it is tough during the week at work. Diana 263/160/145
