Hi Everyone... Today has been a pretty somber day in our little Village of Camden. Eli Parker was laid to rest. The funeral was so beautiful. Of course I didn't take the day off so now I have to wor****il 10pm just to get my time in. Oh well, it was soooo well worth it. Keep his family & all our men & woman serving out country & their families in your prayers. Soooo exercise.... We walked to the church for the funeral which is about an mile, so I did get some exercise in today. I can't wait until things settle down to get back into my routine. My weight today...190.5 (here I go teetering again) Have a great day everyone Tammy

Good morning, Day 16 did 30 mins am. and 30 mins PM. Bally's has a free month trail. I am going to get it so I start back to water areobics. That was fun! I had a 3 month trail at the beginning of the year with the Discovery health challenge. I started water areobics again it was a good work out and fun. So I'm going to start going back for a month anyway. I'm too cheap to buy a membership. Pam

Hey Tammy! Thanks for the link info for the video. How sad. I pray that your village doesn't have any more tragedies, I think you've had enough! I did walk yesterday! I walked 2.5 miles in 40 minutes. I had my monthly nutritionist visit yesterday and she seems to think I am doing ok. We figured out that I am averaging about 850 calories a day. I thought it was more. I was actually quite surprised. Do you think that is enough? I am wondering if it is and maybe that is why I am stalled in my weightloss. I dunno... Anyhoo... I will post todays walk on your May 17th post. It will only be a mile but it's better than nothing. And my nutritionist says that it's cumulative so every step I take is more calories burned and more fat lost. So that is a great motivator for me! Hope your days get better!! Lori 281/186/140ish

Hey Lori, Great job with the nutritionist. See, you're just being too darn hard on yourself. The OH conference was very interesting last week. There was actually a surgeon from West Virginia that did a class on Calories vs Metabolism.... VERY INTERESTING.... it's weird because I heard this from him & soooo many others there. Forget about calorie counting...go for low glycemic choices....100-120 good carbs a day (i was really surprised about that one, but they said good carbs are a necessity)...get them from veggies & whole grains. We should focus on choice. Foods with high water or fiber add bulk...These are good choices. He also said the first thing he does when a patient has stalled or gained with their weight, he has them keep a 2 week food journal. That usually answers alot of questions. Then there's a whole panel of tests that he does. He did list a bunch of metabolism boosters that he has his patients take. I'll list them below. It's interesting how every surgeons office differs. Just seems this surgeon has really done his research. 100% of his practice is bariatrics. He also has a 3000 square foot gym in his office. He suggested that the #1 reason for stall or weight gain is called The Soft Carb Syndrome.....Crumbly foods are the Arch Enemy of WLS patients. He said if it crunches & crumbles...it never goes into your mouth ALONE..... always with protein. He also suggested using the Bucket Rule.... Put or invision putting food into a bucket of water & stir...if no bulk (it dissolves) DO NOT EAT IT.... if not OK to eat. For example...crackers will turn to mush...NOT GOOD... cheese....stays solid GOOD CHOICE. I know you probably already do most of this, but it's always good to hear them again.... His rules of his office NO Crumbly foods No Carbonated beverages EVER......... No Drinking with meals - 30 min before & after Get your protein first -- 70 - 80 grams if not active 90-100 grams per day if active Space your protein every 3-4 hours *************************************** Muscle Milk is great as a meal replacement I'm sure I've forgotten alot, but I'm trying. Exercise wise...he said strength training is key -- 4-5 days a week Intensity is critical........should do 2 days aerobic (minimum 20 min) 3 days strength training METABOLISM BOOSTERS b-12 injections 1000 every month (interestingly only 1% of the subliguil b-12 is absorbed) Carnatine - 500-3000 mg per day (start at 1000 & work your way up)...wls usually deficient L-Carnatine 2000-4000 a day 5 HTP good for anxiety and cravings 900 mg per day alpha lipoic acid 100 mg per day Apparently metabolism is increased at a cellular level He also suggested others. I will try to get the transcript from him to, obviously, the above would be discussed with your Dr as well prior to taking them. I don't take any of the above. I am going to discuss it with my Dr though. He did say that the centrum chewable vitamins are not good at all for wls patients...they are only rated 3%. He said the best over the counter vitamin is Ultra Mega Green from GNC, that it's rated 48% & we should take 3 a day. The #2 vitamin where you would take 2 a day is from Douglas Laboratories - The energy sports formula...the only downfall is that only a physician can order this. Possibly your Dr. can order them. I am speaking with mine. At any rate, girl..... keep up the great work Tammy His website is medabolix.com
