Glad too see I'm not alone in the weight gain department. I had rny distal in Aug 04 went from 398 to 219 in less than a year. Now 3 years out I'm back up to 300 lbs maybe more. Threw the scale away at 300 lbs.. Depression kicked in bad..I never had dumping with my rny, i never felt hungry nor did i ever feel full. I have started some research into revision surgery. Don't know if I will go through with it but it is in the "thinking process". And I DO NOT regret having my surgery. I would do it again in a heart beat, However I'm scared had a rough time from the first surgery and subsequent 9 surgeries after the orignal. Susan

I think it is part of the deal. The last year has been the roughest. Now that its been 3 1/2 years, my body has adapted. But I had the RNY and i NEVER dumped. I can eat a pint of ice cream with not repercussions. It is just like a diet now, I have to consciously make choices, and if I could do that before surgery, I wound have needed it to beging with !!! Hang in there with the rest of us, and we maybe can give each other support. All naturally "thin" people think that the bypass is the "easy" way out. They should walk a mile in our shoes Right! Good luck and happy hollidays. Sue 423/240???? hopfully not 423 again!!!

You are not alone. It's crazy...I had surgery August 4, 2004 and got down to 135. I am not a whoping 175 pounds and about to join WW at work. I am really ashamed and know that other find my surgery a total waste of time and money. But I guess I shouldn't think about what others say huh?

.............." Don't get me wrong, i eat carbs. What i do is i eat my protein first, fruits and veggies next, then the fat or bad carbs last. I eat five small meals a day. If i snack it's fruit , nuts , jerky, or sf pudding or sf popsicles. If i crave something i'll have a bite or two and thats it. If i don't stick to eating like this i am hungry all the time. It's a big effort to make, but if you stay determined you can do it. Also, i drink protein every morning as soon as i wake up and i drink 100 ounces of water a day. Linda ".... Same here, sometimes it feels like I am eating all the time. Those days are when I am not eating enough PROTIEN. Gessss I guess my MD was right cause since I have added more protien I feel lesss of a craving for the carbs. I do get the dumping usually the following day. I also still measure out the foods to proper portion and I also use a program called WWW.FITDAY.COM and keep track of just what I am eating. Many days I am happily surprised to see that I really have not eaten a lot..it just seems that way. Oh I still use a smaller plate.. I know it seems silly but if the plate looks full you will not feel so deprived. I have also beengaing weight but mostly due to some new meds I have to be on! Hopefully as my body becomes adjusted to these meds I will loos some of this NEW weight.... At leasttaht is what I am told !

Hi Tracy, Same here... I was down to 5 pounds from my goal weight of 120 then leveled off at 140, now I am up to 154.5 !!!!!!! I also had many of my meds changed and the last 14 pounds have been in the past 5 weeks !!!!!!!!! ALL since a new med was added. Every time I try to talkto my MD about this all I get is don't worry when you stop thise med it will come off ! YEAH Right meds are what caused me to gain most of the weight I did have. YES I do still exersize ( at least walk over an hour 3-5 times a week) drink a fair amount of liquids, ( not with meals) and I am on a good diet, (right now a High protien diet as I was getting ready for a breat reduction! ------> now that may be canceld because my weight is no longer stable for one year! ) still meaure my foods and still meet with my dietician about very 3-4 months. THIS IS SO FRUSRATING I am not sure what to tell you except, go back to the basics..... Does it help to know you are not alone? Lisa

Hey Tracy, I regained weight as well, I was 165 and got back up to 194. I started back with exercise which I had not done in a while either. I made a point to start drinking all of my water and I just decided to stop eating some of the bad things that I was eating. It has been hard and I've only been at it for 2 weeks, but I am determined not to go shopping for larger clothes. I am down to 186 and am determined to weigh less than 175 by New Years. I have to say though that I know that the exercise is paying off even if the scale is moving slow, because some of the clothing that was really tight is now a whole lot looser. I do believe that it definitely gets easier to gain and harder to lose the further out you are, but I know that we can do it. Saundra

Hey Mary! I am 2-1/5 years out from surgery and I've started gaining weight too. I wonder if this is a regular thing for folks with 2/3 years under their belt. I know I haven't worked out in more than a year, so that has something to do with it. I really think we have to start focusing an losing again. What do thing? Anyone else have this same experience after 2/3 years out from surgery? Tracy

I have gained back 25 lbs since my surgery. My lowest I ever got was 200 down from like 260. If I had to do it all over again I would do the RNY. Why? Because I like chocolate and its a lots easier to get that down than any other food and supposedly with the RNY you cant have sweets which I know now are a big problem for me. So if anyone out there is thinking that the VBG is better for them. Think again. If you like sweets and ice cream, you best think about the fact that those will become very attractive to you after surgery. They are smooth and easy to digest rather than any kind of meat, chicken, fish, or other protein. I know that I have to get serious to lose weight so that I dont end up back where I started and I really dont want gain all the weight back that i had before the surgery. I dont want any more surgery. I most definitely need to cut out sweets period. No more chocolate, ice cream, or any other sugar. Im writing this to warn others that it is possible to gain back the weight and stretch out your stomach after VBG. If you chose it be careful, esp. if you like sweets.
