Topic: 5 A Day??
Hi there,
I was scolded a bit at my 6 month post-op dietican's appointment for not
eating more fruits and veggies. She said 5 a day!! but I was lead to believe
that protein came first, then fruits and veggies are a lower priority... I maybe
get in 1 or 2 a day. How about everyone else???

I wondered how you were doing. I was looking ofr our 8/16 post every week and it was no there. I was starting to get worried bout you. My surgeon says not be be getting 1200-1400 until you want to maintain. Unless your output is extremely high. I will have tto refernce what we should be gettting at this stage for his program I try to stay under 1000 a day. I know for sure he wants, no more than 25 grms fat, 100 carbs and at least 80 protein and the fat and carbs are after you get your daily protein and at least 64 oz water. thats where I always fall short. I am not a big drinker.

I'm glad to know we all hit that eating thing at the same time. I thought it was just me. I have had a voracious appetite for two weeks now. It seems I'm hungry all the time. And what a change from never being hungry for the past 6-7 months to always being hungry now. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Not at all. My nutrtionist said to never fall below 1200 calories a day and stay within 1200-1400 calories a day. For fat grams, she said to stay below 50 (and in my opinion that is pretty hard to do, although I try my hardest to do it), Carbs, well....I don't count them, and she didn't say anything about that....and protein....I think that is probably a little low, she says to be at least 70 g. a day, it won't hurt you if you fall below it and are above 50 every once in a while, but she recommends staying around 70 or above. I try to get in at least 85 a day, sometimes I am quite a bit below it, other days I can hit 120, depends if I eat a protein bar or not.
Although, I've stopped losing again, and I'm doing what they tell me, and I'm starting to wonder if I should cut back on everything!
I've been so frustrated!!!

Topic: RE: How much do you eat???
Karin,
I feel like I can eat WAY too much. My weight has stalled out again, but if I don't eat what I eat, I get the munchies, and I'm starving!!!
This is a typical day of meals for me:
BF - Protein shake or bowl of high protein cereal with milk (usually about 3/4 cup of cereal) or 1 egg w/cheese and 1 slice toast
Snack - slice of toast w/1 oz. of melted cheese or a protein bar (a whole one) or 1 cup of chicken noodle soup or something similar (if I don't eat BF I'll eat 2 cups of soup)
Lunch - sandwhich w/2 slices of low calorie bread, 2 oz. of turkey/chicken/or ham, 1 oz. of low fat cheese and a small 1 serving bag of ff potato chips OR 1/2 flatbread w/2 oz. of meat/1 oz. cheese
Snack - protein shake or protein bar or finish the soup from morning snack
Dinner - 2-3 oz. of chicken/turkey/ground beef, etc. 1/2 small baked potato, or 1 extremely small baked potato, 1/2 cup vegetables
Plus I drink lots and lots and lots of water....usually about 120 oz. a day.
I stay within my calories/fat/protein grams everyday, but I feel like I'm eating too much, and that is why my weight has stalled once again. I hit 103 lbs. about 2 weeks ago, now I'm back at 98 lbs. This is so frustrating to me!
What am I doing wrong???

Date of surgery: 08/03/04
Weight day of surgery: 257

I've had trouble lately with sweets... even WITH dumping! Since Easter actually... I'm working out a lot and trying to focus these next few weeks on protein and WATER!!!! Weight loss is incredibly slow now, but still good-- it's at a healthy rate now that doc's recommend in normal people, so I'll take that! I'd rather see it going that direction than the other any day!!
Keep up the good work!

HI.....I haven't posted in sooooo long here.
Sarah you seem to be going at the same rate as me.
My surgery date was
8/12/04. Starting weight was 320 lbs, gosh I hate to say it! Current
weight is 182 lbs. I have just started eating like most post-ops.
Its been alittle rough for me. But all is better now, and I am happy.
